S’mores in a Jar are my new, favorite dessert. Oh my goodness. You all need to make these STAT. When we go to the annual July 4th concert and carry a cooler that holds our picnic dinner, I like to include a dessert in a jar. In the past I have made cherry pie in a jar, and strawberry shortcake in a jar. This year I came up with s’mores in a jar, and they are so very good. The whole family, (except six month old Baby Girl who didn’t get any) loved them and practically licked their jars clean. Other than being tasty, these desserts are very easy to make. You can do an instant pudding version or a cooked from scratch pudding version (link is here), or a from the box cooked pudding.
S’Mores in a Jar
Ingredients
- Serves 6
- 6 one-half pint mason jars with lids
- 1 1/2 packages graham crackers, crushed
- 1 small jar marshmallow creme
- 1 recipe of chocolate pudding
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (optional)
Instructions
- Wash and dry jars.
- Prepare pudding and let cool. (I used the chocolate pudding recipe from our blog - the link is below but you can use instant pudding or the box pudding that you cook.)
- Crush graham crackers.
- Put a layer of graham crackers in the bottom of each jar.
- Top with a few spoons of chocolate pudding.
- Top with 2 spoons of marshmallow creme
- Add a few chocolate chips.
- Repeat till the jars are full, and top it with a lid.
- Keep cold until ready to serve.
Although you can make the instant or box pudding, I highly recommend this chocolate pudding recipe. It is very chocolatey (is that a word?), and I think the pudding makes this dessert a stand-out. For several years, I have been using Pernigotti cocoa powder for several years. It’s the same kind that the Barefoot Contessa uses. It’s a little more expensive, but it lasts a long time because it comes in 2.2 pound bags. I definitely think it’s worth it, and if you love your chocolate than you probably want the quality product. You can get more info about it here.
These s’mores are a great way to have the flavor of the real McCoy, but you don’t have to build a fire. Using this recipe is a great way to capture one of summer’s favorite treats in a jar. They’re perfect for camping trips, cook-outs, picnics, fishing trips, a day in the boat, an afternoon at the pool, or a snack at the park. Just remember to pack some spoons. Oh, and the kids can help you make them. That’s another plus to serving these delicious s’mores in a jar.
Take care.
