Updated Kitchen Cabinet

By Janette | Before and After, Decorating

Hello, everyone.  As I write this post, Jordan and Yankee are right in the middle of buying a house in Charlotte.  They have narrowed their selection down to two, and if they don’t get the first one, they’ll move on to the second.  They also have two or three waiting in the wings in case they don’t get either of their top choices.  (I’ll leave a note at the end of this post when I find out something.)  Today I finally get to show you the last tweak that we made in our kitchen.  So far you have seen the rustic shelves, new hardware, the buffet that was once a hutch, the new/old rug and the updated pantry.

At the suggestion of my friend and kitchen designer Debra Hupman, I had Carpenter Greg remove the wooden doors that were on the center cabinet.  He took the glass doors that had been on the hutch top, which moved to the pantry, and put them on this cabinet.

That was after I painted the interior the same shade of gray as the kitchen peninsula.

Carpenter Greg also hardwired under counter lights and added lights to this cabinet’s interior along with very thick glass shelves.  The lighting chore was the most expensive tweak that we did in the kitchen, but it was so worth it.  I can’t believe the difference the under counter lights make to the entire room.

The dishes that are in this cabinet are the ones we use on a daily basis.  There are four different sets of dinner plates along with blue stemmed water goblets and stemless blue water goblets.  The top shelves hold a tureen and two gravy boats that we seldom use.

This is what it looked like before.  I think it is a lot more interesting now.  Don’t you?

Next, I am going to put all of these pictures together that I have taken over the past few weeks and give you a proper kitchen tour.  But….there’s one more addition to our place that I haven’t even mentioned yet.  Here’s a hint:  It involves books, lots and lots of books.

Okay, I just received a text from Jordan, and they are under contract for house choice number one.  I’ll let her give you all of the details when the time is right.  Thanks so much for stopping in.  Have a wonderful week.

Take care.

Fingers crossed for Jordan & Yankee to get #1 choice. If not, they can make anything work with their magic touches!!
And yes, I agree, glass front doors look great. I’d just hate to be loading in and out glass dishes and glassware, onto glass shelves, behind glass doors on a daily basis. More accurately and importantly, I’d hate for my husband to be doing this. Recipe for disaster in my household!!!

You’re so cute. I know I’M the one who will be loading and unloading those dishes around here. Bless his heart…..and mine.
