Yep!! I just wrote that dorky headline. I confess, but I couldn’t pass up using the word spool instead of the word fool. Because, you see, today’s post features spools – really old, cool, colorful, wooden spools. And get this – they’re stuffed into a cloche. It’s a look I love.
I just gathered up all of the odd-sized wooden spools from days of yore and put them into my big old cloche that I bought years ago at the Rockcastle River Trading Co. (Read about it here, here, and here.)
Then I put one of my silver trays on it and turned it upside down. I didn’t even bother to polish the tray. That’s even better because it has a nice oldish patina.
The cloche and company have been the dining table centerpiece for a few months now, and to add a fall touch I threw on a little square tablecloth that I bought in Hydra, an island about an hour’s boat ride from Athens, Greece.
I have been to Hydra a couple of times. It was established as an artist colony way back when and is so teeny-tiny that cars/trucks aren’t allowed. It’s just your feet and donkeys, folks. But I digress. When I say I threw the cloth onto the table, that’s what I really did. I let it drop, and the way it landed is the way it stayed. It doesn’t look contrived at all – just kind of rumpled and cute.
Then I added some rust colored candles to the silver candleholders (they’re polished), and there’s a fall centerpiece. How simple was that!!! The colors in the cloth pick up the colors of the spools, and it’s autumn bliss.
The best thing about this centerpiece is that I had everything on hand, and the hardest part about it was dealing with the glare when taking photos.
I’m feelin’ pretty good about my little cloche creation.
I guess I’m too spool for school!!!
Take care.
Love this idea! I have many old spools and cloches.
Have a wonderful week.

I love to use a cloche for a display of collectibles. Thanks for sharing, Janette.
I know what you mean about the glare on the cloche! I had issues with it too! I love your creative idea here. The spools look so cool under the cloche and that lovely tablecloth from Greece looks wonderful with them! I like the vibrant coloring in that fabric!
This is a great cloche! Love the old spools that fit inside.

You’ve been spooling very well! 🙂 What a wonderful vignette and your colorful scarf looks so pretty on your table.
Be a sweetie,
Shelia 🙂
How fun. I would never have thought of this. I love the spools. Thanks for joining the party. Hugs, Marty
Using the wooden spools is so simple, yet oh so pretty! Love the draped scarf on the table, too.
Visiting from the cloche party.
