Visiting the Antique Show

By Janette | Out and About

After breaking a record in the snowfall department, the sun came out here in Lexington this week-end just in time for one of my favorite annual events.  Although I was snowed-in at my parents’ home for opening day, I made it to the Bluegrass Trust Antique Show yesterday, and it was as wonderful as usual.  Just to give you a little background, the Bluegrass Trust is a non-profit organization dedicated to saving and preserving historic homes and farms here in Central Kentucky.  The antique show is their largest fund raiser.  Although it wasn’t as large as the one I attended in Nashville, it has over fifty top quality vendors selling art, rugs, silver, pottery, posters, furniture, and collectibles of the finest quality.

Please enjoy the photos.

Not everything was old.  This table setting was beautiful and ready for Easter.

I love this old table and these lamps, which were HUGE.

The show is held at the huge arena at the Kentucky Horse Park.  Excuse the blurry photo, but I just had to show you that there was plenty of room for this green house.

I thought about my new daugther-in-law, who is an Emmy award winning documentary producer, when I saw the new use for these empty film cartridges.

I wonder if Diane Keaton would like this clock.  I’m referring to this.

These people used the most unusual items for lamps.  They even had one made from egg beaters.

I loved this green chippy table.  We DIYers try so hard to get this look with our paints, and this one has it by being old.

In fact, I loved everything about this table from its patina to the dishes…..

…..to the stools and even the rug under them.

There were two benches like this made partially out of horse shoes.  After all, we are the Horse Capital of the World!

Here’s another great lamp idea.  This one is made out of a terrarium.  How clever is that???

I have a lamp made out of an old cream can, but these floor lamps are made from old French milk cans.  Aren’t they the cutest!

If this little girl had been for sale, she is what I would have bought.

It was great seeing my blogging friend Kim Hites.  We have the same pronunciation of our last names, but mine is Heitz.  I just learned last week that she is a former Miss Kentucky USA.  Kim sells beautiful French antiques, that she hand selects, at the Thoroughbred Antique Gallery here in Lexington.  A shipment of the items she bought on her last trip will be arriving soon.

I hope you enjoyed this little tour as much as I did writing it.  And just in case you are wondering what Jordan has been up to, that girl has been in Mexico on a long week-end enjoying the weather, the Mayan ruins, and the like.  She’ll tell you all about it soon.

Take care.
