We have a little glass room in the corner of our courtyard that I just love. I have written about it here, here, here, and here. The previous owner had it installed, and it is one of the few things that we kept during the total gut job we did on this place when we bought it. She did have blue 1980’s tile on the floor which we removed.
This is how it looks from the courtyard dressed in its spring/summer garb.
This is the kitchen view of the sun room today while wearing its winter apparel.
This is the view from the great room. Two sets of French doors open onto the little space.
I love checks, toiles, and plaids, and I love mixing them. This isn’t a Christmas look at all. It’s more the “lumber jack lives here” look.
The vintage trunk that serves as the coffee table is a perfect place for storing the summer pillows. In the summer, it stores the winter plaids. You last saw those antique wooden spools under a cloche centerpiece on the dining room table. The black fabric is a faux bear skin rug that I made out of black furry fabric.
Sometimes the “bear skin” is a rug, sometimes it is tossed on a chair, but this year it is keeping the trunk warm. (Ignore its lint. Bears do that, you know).
My goal this season is just to buy a tree and a few poinsettias and then to pull everything else from what I have. That’s the case with this little vignette made from an Ikea dish towel, a thermos I bought at Brimfield, a coaster made from a tile, a mug from one of our sets, and an old photo that I enlarged. It shows Mr. Autumn’s uncle and some of his female friends frolicking in the snow (yes, they frolicked back then) in the 1930’s. I love it.
Here’s a closer look.
I always pull out my Hans Brinker book this time of year. Did you know it was written by an American author who never went to the Netherlands? None of my Dutch friends are familiar with the story because it is an American thing.
This winter look is 95 per cent complete. All I need to do is replace the garden-themed mirror over the sofa with something that is a little more rustic. Now, I think I’ll go sit in the wicker chair, wrap up in the plaid blanket, and sip some hot chocolate.
Love the plaids. Very cozy and inviting space.
What a wonderful little place
All it all looks so cozy and inviting!! I agree love the plaids.
Such a cozy spot! I looks so inviting. You’ve decorated it beautifully.
I love how you were able to incorporate the vintage family photo into the theme! The entire little sunroom is fabulous!
I love this sunroom. What a wonderful place to sip some cocoa!
Love this sweet room, especially with the warming plaids.. It’s going to just be fabulous with a tree. xo marlis
