I delivered two of our chairs to a local consignment shop last week, and of course, while I was there I had to browse around. I found an adorable tray that was on sale for 40 per cent off and grabbed it. I have a thing for trays and love using them to carry my breakfast to the sunroom in the summer, and I love using them in vignettes.
This tray was a little bit different from many that I have seen because it had a nice embossed paper as part of its base and was matted in black. I took it apart and cleaned the glass and dusted the base and then just screwed it back together.
Recently I have been using this tray to anchor our vignette on the great room coffee table, which is really an old trunk. This tray was too deep, though and just ate up the items I placed in it.
Although I kept most of the same items in the tray for my red, white and blue vignette, they show up better because the tray is more shallow. Plus, it is smaller and now there is room for the maiden hair fern that I love.
I added some old keys to the little saucers that I use as coasters, freshened the flowers, and switched out the candles. It is just the perfect sweet little table-top arrangement.
While we are in the great room, here’s the way our dining table looks for the summer. Lately I have given it the look of a library table with piles of books and goodies but wanted a simpler look for summer. You can’t get simpler than this, and I love it. The ginger jar is large and bold, and the silver candle stick holders balance it out nicely.
Last week I told you about the upcoming changes that we are making in the kitchen. Well, there’s one change in the great room that I am really excited about. We are having shelves made for that wall between the kitchen and the great room and the hall and the great room. They will go all the way across the width of the room. The builder (the same team who did the gut job on our place four years ago) will start in a week or two. Since Mr. Right is away for the summer, it is the perfect time to get these projects completed. (Don’t worry…..Mr. Right is fully aware.) Having shelves on that wall is something we planned to do all along, and I think it will be a nice addition to the room. There is one more change in the great room that I am beyond excited about, and it happens next Monday afternoon. I can’t wait to share it with you. Here’s a hint: it will take place between 1:00 and 5:00.
Thanks so much for stopping in. Have a wonderful day.
Take care.
