Even though I am going with a soft natural colors for this year’s Christmas decorating inside, I decided to once again give the north woods look to our new sun room. I used to put this look on the screened-in porch at our last house.
It gives me the chance to use the flannel and wool plaids that I love.
In the summer, when I first decorated it, this is how it looked.
Then when I was free-falling (here), it looked like this.
All of the basics are the same. But I covered the ticking cushions on the wicker sofa with a piece of flannel plaid fabric I bought a few years back at Walmart. I added some stadium blankets that we use during football season, and tossed on two big ole buffalo plaid pillows purchased for $6.00 each at a discount store a while back.
I love the way the different fabrics play with one another.
Now the trunk, that formerly held a swan and later a pumpkin, holds hot chocolate for two. The thermos came from the Brimfield antique show about five years ago.
Now that the ferns are long-gone, I placed some magnolia leaves in the plant stand outside in the courtyard. I will add some evergreens and balls as Christmas gets nearer.
The trunk holds all of the seasonal pillows. It also holds a faux bear skin rug that I cut out of furry black fabric. I decided not to use it this year since I have the new sisal rug left over from fall. I will keep this look until late February or early March when it will be time to transform it back to a pastel color scheme. But until then, I am going to enjoy this, my favorite look.
Do you decorate your porch, deck, or sunroom for the winter? It’s a lot of fun to shop the house and see what you come up with.

I love your winter makeover! What is it about plaid that immediately gets you into a holiday mood?!

Your sunroom looks so cozy all dressed up for winter 🙂 Love the combination of colourful plaids and checks, and your trunk is a fabulous colour 🙂
Very nice touches! love the plaids.. and I have the same Bemis pillow!
I like the north woods look. Plaids always make me smile! Like the idea of a thermos of hot chocolate. I’m going to remember that one. And yes, we use our sun porch all year long. I add seasonal touches through table vignettes. Hadn’t thought about changing out the cushions, but that’s a good idea. ~ Sarah
Love it! The plaids are so festive and traditional and the color of the trunk could not be more perfect for this season…or any season for that matter. 🙂 Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful porch with us at the Doors and Porches party!
