Out of the Cabinet

By Janette | Before and After, Projects

Happy Monday!    This week makes one year since Mr. Autumn and I moved into our dream townhouse.  I have had a great time decorating and gradually showing you the results.  However, I’ve been hiding a little secret, and it’s time to reveal it.

One of my favorite spots is my pantry/office (here) located beside the kitchen.  I set up a bake station in this room so that I can do all of my cake, pie and cookie prep and mixing here without carrying the heavy Kitchenaid mixer into the kitchen.

But a deep, dark secret has been lurking behind this pantry cabinet.

Here it is.  I have been living with and fighting this mess for a few months now.  Whew!  I feel so much better now that I confessed this little weakness.

This week-end I decided that enough was enough.  The solution was so easy.  All I needed was two of these organizer racks that I picked up at Bed Bath & Beyond for just $5.99 each.

When we remodeled, I had a small sink installed in the bake station area.  Its pipes made it impossible to have an upper shelf in this lower cabinet.  This is how it looked after I cleared out all of the pans.

After fretting about this one cabinet for a few months, it only took me a few minutes to get it looking like this.

So, how about you.  Have you organized anything lately?

Take care.

I have an identical nasty little secret. Bed Bath and Beyond – the next time I’m in WA I’ll have a look. It would be lovely to resolve that mess!

One of my must haves for the addition I am planning is a pantry–need it, want it, gotta have it!! Yours is perfect.

I agree – the simplest things are the ones we put off, and yet they make the biggest difference when finally done! Thanks for sharing the detail about where you found the organizers. That is a good price, compared to some other big box stores I have looked in. And, I think I get coupons for BB&B too! So, no more excuses for me either, thanks to your honest and helpful inspiration! Thanks for sharing!

I have the same thing to organize cookie sheets and baking pans. I am not only organizing EVERYTHING, we are moving so I am going through every single closet, drawer, etc. in the house. NOT an easy job:):) XO, pinky

Small changes can bring big results in your quality of life. It’s harder to convince yourself to stop and deal with the problem sometimes than it is to fix it. Your area looks great now.

Don’t you wonder why it took so long to fee so good?! We all do it! Now, ENJOY it! And you will, each time you open that cabinet!! Thanks for sharing your quick, smart change. ~Zuni

Great idea! I’ve used several of those in cabinets here in our home — under the range top & in the cabinet over the ovens. Makes it so much easier to grab what I need.
