Hello, friends. We are back today with my Christmas family room. This room is open to the kitchen, and we spend a lot of time in there. When I am cooking dinner, Mike is usually watching the news, and it’s nice to be part of the activities. We usually have the fireplace on in the cold months, and we so enjoy it. Having a gas fireplace makes life much easier although we do miss the sound and ambience of a real wood burning fireplace. For those of you wondering…..Jordan’s house is all ready for Christmas, but she has been so busy with work and children that she won’t be posting photos of it. Even though most of the posts here on the blog are written by me, Jordan is very involved behind the scenes dealing with bookkeeping, advertisers, and social. She will be having an update of Google, possibly on Thursday. Now, let ‘s look at our Christmas family room.
As we enter the family room from the kitchen we pass this chair. It moved to this corner from the dining room when we had our new shelves installed. The pillow is from Hobby Lobby.
Here’s another healthy fresh poinsettia. I have several around the house.
I have old post cards from my grandmother framed and sitting in different spots. They are from 1914 and 1915. That’s how teens communicated back then.
I made this French graphic a few years ago and just glued it to an ordinary box of farmer matches. It would make a cute gift with a candle if you want to make one. I did it on the Word program and printed it on scrap book paper.
The side board holds a Father Christmas that my mother painted.
She painted two of them, and I treasure them. The other one is in the dining room, which you saw yesterday.
And here’s another framed post card.
A piece of plaid flannel that I hemmed became a throw.
This live plant greets us when we enter from the porch to the mudroom.
The end table holds this Russian painting that a friend gave us when we visited her in Moscow on this trip. It is a Russian winter scene.
The coffee table is very simple.
We have a winter scene by Van Gogh on our Frame television by Samsung. Our son just bought one for his new house because he likes ours so much.
We added a few touches to the back porch.
I hope you enjoyed our Christmas in the family room tour. Have a great day.
Take care.

Beautiful! My favorite things are your mom’s Santa and your grandmother’s post cards. Wonderful treasures! I am now going to put an ornament from my grandmother in a cloche.

Janette, I painted a Santa exactly like that one when my children were small. I was trying to get a good look at the one in the dining room to see if it is like one of the others I painted. I hope my grandchildren treasure the ones I did as much as you do yours! I love the simplicity of your decorations. Not going “all out” makes for more time to enjoy the season.
Merry Christmas!

Judy, the one in the dining room is a different Santa but painted in similar style. Thanks for complimenting me on not going all out. This is the way we do Christmas. I didn’t create something that looks good but isn’t us.
