Bourbon Milk Punch

By Janette | Beverages, Food

Hello, everyone.  We have had a busy week, and it is about to get busier.  Mike and I have been out of town all week and arrived home from Colorado at midnight last night.  The neighborhood open house we are hosting is this Sunday, and we are having friends for dinner Saturday night.  So it is crunch time.  We first flew to Nebraska for two nights at our daughter-in-law’s parents.  Then we rode to Denver where our son and wife have decided to move.  Actually, they just closed on a huge home in Evergreen, CO and are having some work done before they move into it in January.  They wanted my opinion on a few decorating decisions, and of course, I was happy to give it.  Mike and our son hit the slopes, we celebrated a birthday, Josie and I did fun house things.  We also went to the Monet exhibit at the Denver Art Museum and had afternoon tea. But best of all was spending special time with our little granddaughter who will be two in January.  Today’s recipe is a punch I am considering for the open house.  It is bourbon milk punch, and it is definitely a southern thing – maybe even just a Kentucky thing. (Most of the world’s version is made within 50 miles of us.)  It is kind of a light version of eggnog but without the eggs.  The recipe we are sharing is for one person, but it can easily serve more just by multiplying.

Bourbon Milk Punch

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 ounces whole milk
  • 1 1/2 ounces bourbon
  • 3/4 ounce sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/8 of teaspoon vanilla extract (Madagascar bourbon vanilla extract – the good stuff – is highly recommended)
  • Dash of nutmeg

Instructions

  1. Add all ingredients to a shaker, and dry shake for 10 seconds.
  2. Add ice to shaker, and shake for 10 more seconds. Strain into a chilled coupe glass.
  3. Garnish with a dash of nutmeg.
  4. Recipe yields one drink and surplus for a sidecar. Cheers!

I found this recipe in The Chevy Chaser, which is a local neighborhood newspaper that we receive each month.  They often have good cocktail recipes.  I bought a used punch bowl on Facebook Marketplace and will be serving this bourbon milk punch from it, but I think I will also serve a white wine winter sangria similar to this one for the wine drinkers in attendance.  Let us know if you try this punch.  Follow along on Instagram to see how it all goes.

Take care.
