Little Miss Turns 5

Today is Little Miss’s fifth birthday.  We had a princess tea party for her and her friends on Saturday.  Specifically, it was a Jasmine (from Aladdin) party, and the seven little guests wore their favorite princess costumes.  We kept it pretty simple.

I did a few things ahead of time to make the day go more smoothly.  I bought pink bags and added an Aladdin lamp stamp to each one.  Inside  each was a sparkly Aladdin bracelet that I bought here.

I also upgraded the plastic water bottles.  I mailed invitations because I always think a real invite is so much better than an evite.

We set the table on our back porch for the “tea” portion of the party.

I just used paper plates in purple and gold and placed them on gold plastic chargers.  I bought clear punch cups at the thrift store, and served pink lemonade in them.  They enjoyed the lemonade much more than they would have hot tea on the very hot and humid day.

This Aladdin rug (buy it here) was used as a topper over a white tablecloth.  We will reuse it when the family dresses up as Aladdin characters for Halloween.  It will go in the wagon, and Google will sit on it.  (He’s going to be Aladdin.) The centerpiece was helium-filled balloons.  I found a special, large Aladdin balloon, and it was the anchor for the others.

Before we had snacks and cake, the girls painted tea cups and tea pots that I bought here.  They baked in the oven to set the paint while the party continued.  Before they left, each girl was able to pick up the cup she painted.  Last year, we had to alter our party plans because a hurricane came through that day.  So, it was nice to be able to take the celebration outside this year.

We picked up a cake from BJ’s, and they did an excellent job.

Since the parents were here during the party, I assembled an assortment of foods, like scones, sausage balls, fruit, bagels, pimento cheese, etc. for them to enjoy.

Since she can’t read yet, I will tell you that we bought a new bicycle for Little Miss.  She has been riding on her own for about 18 months without training wheels now and has outgrown her current bike.  She learned to ride very quickly on a balance bike, and I highly recommend that method for any of you whose children or grandchildren are ready to learn to ride.  Google is now riding on her balance bike, and I think he’ll be riding on his own soon.

We are planning just to have pizza and cake for dinner tonight and then open her gifts afterward.

We can’t believe our girl is already five, and here on the blog, you all have been able to follow the whole process of our becoming her parents.  We cannot imagine our lives without her.
