Hi everyone. We thought we would share a fun post today. Little Miss turned four right during Hurricane Florence, but that didn’t stop us from celebrating. The down side was that our family was scheduled to come celebrate but couldn’t make it due to canceled flights. However, most of her friends live in our neighborhood, so we were still able to have a gathering.
For birthdays, Little Miss has always had the impression that they are sort of like Halloween. You pick a character and you embrace it. You are that character for your birthday. When we mention that it is someone’s birthday, she always asks what are they going to be. My dad has the next birthday in the family, and she still doesn’t get he is just going to be Grandpa for his birthday. I actually like this tradition, and it is fun to see what she comes up with. This summer out of the blue she told us she wanted to be a cowgirl. So, giddy up, and enjoy the ride.
I am old school, and I love a paper invitation. Back in the day, one of my jobs was selling wedding invitations. I had books and books and loved working with brides looking at paper and finding their invitations for the big day. I always said and still think to this day invitations set the mood. I got these cute invites on Zazzle, and since we were only inviting a few people, I was glad I didn’t have to order a ton. I always forget about Zazzle, but the quality and price were great!
Being a cowgirl for the birthday girl started the moment she got up. We had balloons and gifts downstairs waiting, and I put on Disney princess music. She came down, and the first thing she said was, “That’s not cowgirl music. Alexa, play Dixie Chicks.” LOL
This was also the first year we had friends for a party. Usually, it is just the family so I thought let’s add to this theme and have a pony come for the girls. Well, due to the hurricane, we had to cancel the ponies, and Plan B was formed. Decorate cowgirl hats and horses. and of course have birthday cake!
Little Miss wanted a pinata and has been fascinated with them since making one in Nicaragua. It was a great centerpiece, and it turns out the kids all wanted to do the Pinata even in the rain.
We all sang to the birthday girl and enjoyed some cake. Afterwards, her friends put on their boots and raincoats and headed outside for Pinata time!
I think Pinatas are making a come back. The children had so much fun, and thanks to the rain they all stayed under the porch till it was their turn or the candy started coming out. So, we didn’t have to worry about one child accidentally hitting another child with the stick while they were whacking the pinata.
We all had a great time, and Little Miss made sure everyone left with a cookie. She is already talking about what she wants to be next year for her birthday. I said we had Halloween first, and she informed me she wanted to be a frog. Ha! How this girl comes up with these ideas I don’t know, but I love it!
Cheers!

Happy birthday to Little Miss. What fun! She looks adorable in those pink cowgirl boots.
I love the “Alexa, play Dixie Chicks” comment. That girl is a pistol! When my goddaugher turned 5, her parents had a pony from a local farm come for pony rides in the yard. The kids loved it.

Janette, we met on the Holland bike trip in May. JIm and I enjoyed talking with you and Mike. In fact, you inspired us and we just returned from the North Holland tour and have now signed up for the Provence tour next spring. I know you enjoyed that tour so would love to touch base and hear any suggestions you may have for the trip or side excursions. I neglected to get your email but would value hearing from you!
Rita
P. S. I hope Mike enjoyed his incredible journey!
