I have been easing into a summer look this year, and my most recent change was to switch out rugs in the great room to add a lighter feel. I originally bought this striped rug for the kitchen, but when I found an antique one that I loved, the striped number moved to our bedroom.
Since we have sisal rugs in the great room, I like to add a smaller rug in front of the sofa for a layered look. I bought an antique tribal Moroccan rug that we use in the fall and winter a few years ago when Jordan and I rode our bicycles through the Sahara desert. One day I decided to just grab the blue and white striped rug and make a switch for the summer. I really liked the way it looks.
I will be adding some pillows with red and some pillows with navy for July through August because I love patriot colors in the summer. They just seem easy and festive to me, and that’s what summer is all about.
This is the fall/winter rug, and although it has my favorite colors in it, it is clearly not a summer time look.
I love the blue rug because it looks just like one in the movie, Something’s Gotta Give. Her house was located at the beach, and even though we live in a townhouse in the city, I can always pretend I hear the ocean nearby. A girl can dream, right? And this rug makes it easy.
Take care.
I love the blue look in your great room. It all says “relax” in the nicest way! With the blue plates and the blue a accents and pillows, it is just inviting and lovely.
Thank you, Sandy.
Is it hard to sweep those lighter rugs? Mine get sucked up into the vacuum.
Pam, this rug is very thick. It’s wool, and thankfully, I haven’t had an issue with the vacuum and the rug.
