Fall pillows in the great room are a perfect way to introduce autumn to the somewhat neutral room. When I look at our great room with its neutral walls, furniture, and rugs, I realize the importance that colorful accessories play. Without them, I think the room would look flat. That’s the best word I can think of to describe it. So, it’s very important to me to have some color on the sofa to add some life to the large space. Last week I showed you the cute fall pillow that I made using linen and painter’s drop cloth. To add some more color to the sofa area, I made two more pillows that have the navy that I love but also some browns and deep orange.
Fabric Choice for the Pillows
I found some cute fabric at my local fabric shop, and thought it would make some colorful fall pillows.
I actually bought the fabric last spring and just saved it away like a squirrel till just a few weeks ago. I used this method to make them, and they took less than an hour.
Buffalo Check Pillows, Too
I paired them with two large 24 inch pillows that are a beige buffalo check. I lucked into those covers one day in Pottery Barn, and they had been reduced by 50 percent. Of course, I had to buy some more feather inserts, but now I have them to use again and again.
Our house is at its best in the fall, and these pillows just tie everything together. I brought out the antique rug that Jordan and I selected when we were bicycling through Morocco. This time I put it at an angle on top of the seagrass rug. Its colors work very well with the pillows. We are gradually getting into fall around here, and I am just so excited about my favorite season.
Take care.

Those pillows!! How perfect with your rug! I am also loving your white couch and chair. I just purchased a white couch and think I HAVE to get my chairs covered in white. I just love switching out pillows!

Kathy, pillows are the perfect answer to neutrals because for a few dollars, you can have all of the colors you want.

Fall is my favorite season too. Your new pillows have captured a fantastic look in your great room! I love that brass fire extinguisher on the hearth…lovely touch! 😉

Donnamae, my uncle bought the fire extinguisher years ago at an auction for $2.00. Mom then had it refinished, and they love it!
