Navy is one of the trendy colors these day, but in my world it has been around a while. I love navy, always have, and probably always will. So, with fall and winter upon us, I decided to move some navy accents into the great room.
This chair was custom-made for Mr. Right years ago. He had it in one of his offices, but we eventually moved it into our guest room and had it covered in this navy plaid. I moved it from the guest room to a perfect spot here beside the fireplace. And yes, that’s an airplane propeller in the background. It is from a single engine plane used in World War II.
When I was in Paris, I bought a few kilim pillow covers, and I love the boho touch that they add.
We’re leaving today to fly to Istanbul, Turkey for a long week-end, and I plan to buy a kilim rug in the bazaar for our foyer. (I’ll fill you in on the trip later.)
Changing the look of a neutral room is easy when you use pillows.
These pillow covers are made from good parts of rugs that have worn out. They also make purses, luggage, and shoes out of remnants from old kilim rugs.
Here is another one that I tossed on the sofa. They all have similar colors, but the patterns are completely different.
Another fall touch with navy in it is this rug. Jordan and I bought it when we were on a big bicycle trip in Africa a few years ago. We bought it in Morocco, and boy, there’s a story. I love the way it looks layered over the sisal rug.
This rug is an antique, and I don’t remember the name of the clan that made it.
This table cloth is one I made a few years ago. It also has the navy that I love and is perfect beside our Mama Bear and Papa Bear chairs.
The side board also got a touch of fall, but there’s no navy here. I brought out my bundle of wheat, a French demijohn, a deer antler, and added a fall flower, a white pumpkin, and some silver.
The side board could be stuffy and formal, but the arrangement and demijohn lamps add a rustic touch.
As soon as it’s cold enough to have a fire, you’ll find me in this room all warm and cozy.
Take care.
