New Hardware in the Kitchen

By Janette | Before and After, Decorating

While I was busy having changes made in our kitchen (here, here, and here), I did not forget about the hardware.  I loved the pulls and knobs we selected for our new cabinets when we remodeled four years ago.  However, that love affair ended quickly when they started discoloring.

I also felt that the old pulls just weren’t large enough.  They didn’t carry enough visual weight for me.  I wanted pulls that were longer.  However, since the screw mounts were three inches apart, our new pulls needed to also be the same distance.  I was able to find a pull that was five inches long with three inch mounts.

And to make the hunt even more specific, I wanted the pulls to be somewhat contemporary.  Typing that word is difficult because our home is definitely not contemporary.  It is traditional through and through.  But with some of the rustic additions in our kitchen, I thought a contemporary pull would be the perfect yin to the rest of the kitchen’s yang.  Debra Hupman, my friend who is a kitchen designer, agreed.

At first I thought I would try to find a pull that was somewhat farmhouse, but after visiting some wonderfully remodeled kitchens on a recent kitchen tour, I decided that the contemporary and chrome pulls were the way to go.  I love the way they look with the rest of our kitchen.

While we are on the kitchen hardware, I was happy that our kitchen towel bar turned pot hanger got the notice of some magazines recently.  It will also be featured in my favorite Canadian magazine’s ( House and Home) September issue.  Sadly, their photos are before the hutch became a buffet.  We still have one more area of the kitchen to show you.   Stay tuned for that.

Thank you all so much for stopping in.  Jordan and Yankee are in Charlotte house hunting.  I can’t wait to hear all about it.  I’m sure she will be sharing the details with you, too.

Take care.
