Every grandmother has a special recipe, and that is true for my grandmother (my mother’s mom). It is her special hot dog sauce recipe. When I was growing up, she owned a little country restaurant, and this was one of her customers’ favorite requests. She often made it for my brother and me because it was one of our favorite requests, too.
Occasionally, my mother would made the sauce for a cook out. Now that summer is here, I wanted to share this special sauce with you. Beware! It is great to freeze and defrost when needed. Add it to any hot dog or hamburger, and everyone will be wanting Grandma’s hot dog sauce recipe.
Grandma’s Hot Dog Sauce
1 pound ground beef or ground turkey
1 3/4 cups ketchup
1/4 cup mustard
3 medium onions
3 tablespoons chili powder
3 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
1/4 cup sugar (more if sauce is too tart)
Brown meat and drain. Chop onions. Add both to a large pot along with the remaining ingredients, and simmer covered for 45 minutes. Watch carefully and stir frequently so that it does not scorch.
Cheers!

This sounds so yummy and we eat A LOT of hot dogs in the summertime (well, mostly my kids eat them!) and this will be the perfect accessory to go with them! 🙂 Thanks so much for sharing this with us at Inspiration Friday this week!

Looks wonderful! Thank you for posting the recipe! I love hot dogs (especially the Nathan hot dogs in the grocery store) and we took them occasionally in the summer over a fire. This is PERFECT for our next cookout!
