Hmmm….That headline doesn’t sound right does it, but it is. You might remember that I just finished up my annual bicycle trip in Europe. My main mode of transportation for the two weeks was a bicycle so I had to keep the souvenir purchases small and light. (I’ve shared other souvenirs here, here, here, here, and here.)
My first stop on the first day was the city of Ghent where I took this charming photo. Lucky for me, it was early in the day, and the artists were setting up their make-shift shops in the square.
A very elderly man who was walking with a cane had just laid out his display. The little oil paintings were small and cheap, and I was smitten.
I bought two sweet little paintings that measure 4 x 6. I knew they would fill a blank spot in the kitchen perfectly. Unfortunately, the photos do not do them justice. They are loaded with texture and color, and I love them.
This egg is my fave. I love the black on black, and the simple frame just adds to that.
This rooster definitely didn’t lay the egg, but they just seemed to go together, so I made them mine.
I love the way they look in this little corner over my mailbox turned breadbox. I will never see the little artist again, but we had a special moment when I spoke my broken French, and he sold me his art.

Take care.

The best souvenirs are those little finds – something just speaks to you doesn’t it? The artist really had quite an interesting array of subject matter and your choices look right at home above your darling “bread box.”
Oh it looks great and I love the story behind the painting!
