When my mom was in France at the end of last summer (here , here and here), she bought each of us a packet of French flower seeds to plant this year in our gardens.
After seeing all of the beautiful flowers at Monet’s Garden, she bought this package of poppy seeds for me.
She bought them after being inspired by all of the flowers growing there.
She bought sunflowers for herself at a little village flower shop.
She got her inspiration at Monet’s garden, also.
We decided that the weather this past week-end was perfect for seed planting, so, I planted my poppies here in Syracuse in our square foot garden (here)……
…..and she planted her sunflowers in her Lexington courtyard (here). Neither of us has the ideal place to grow these flowers, but we are excited to see how they turn out, and we will be sure to let you know in July or August.

How exciting! Wouldn’t it be wonderful to have a garden with seeds from France? Hope they do really well!

Flower seeds – now that is a GREAT idea for a souvenir from a trip. I’ll have to remember that. I hope they do well for you!
Just one caveat re. sunflower seeds: the chipmunks love them! I’ve had terrible terrible problems putting the seeds right into the ground. Now I start them in containers for many weeks, and even then surround them with milk cartons and spray when they go into the ground! If you have a cat or dog, then you’re fine! Love those little chipmunks, but oh, they are tricky…..
Libby,
Fingers crossed the chipmunks do not get to the seeds.
Cheers!
Now that is a great idea to bring a little France home.
I agree what a great gift idea to bring back to enjoy all Summer!
What a great idea to do that….can’t wait to see them….they’re going to be stunning!
