Almost Original Art

By Janette | Before and After, Decorating, Projects

This is another one of those “same, same, but different” projects that I love.  Do you remember when I posted about our gallery wall last fall?

For those of you who are new to The 2 Seasons, here it is.  It is made up of original art and/or artsy items that have special meaning to us.

Okay.  Let’s concentrate on this painting in particular.  It was done by my mother and is an oil painting of our son and our nephew when they were little boys.  Cute, isn’t it?  The only problem is that it is not mine.  No, it belongs to my brother.

This is a closer shot of it.  The glare is coming from the morning sun that was coming into the foyer.

This is what our gallery wall looked like this morning.  You are probably thinking that it looks the same, and it does.  But, it’s different.  The original painting that my mother did has been replaced with a giclee.  I know.  Who would have thought?????

This is another shot of the giclee.  I take art classes and was moaning to my art teacher that I would love to own this painting but didn’t feel as if I could ask my brother for it.  So, she told me to borrow it from my brother and have a reproduction done.  I have seen giclees in catalogs but didn’t know that a normal person could get one made.

All I did was take it to a professional photographer who also has an art gallery.  She took a photo of the original and then printed it onto a stretched canvas.  I told her that I wanted it to be the same size as the original, but she could have made it any size.  That’s it.  I picked it up a week later and was thrilled with the results.  It looks and feels like an oil painting.  There is an ever so slight difference in the color but only if I put them side by side.

Now the original can go back to my brother, and I can be happy with the copy because it is “same, same but different”.

Take care.

What a great idea. I actually own a couple giclees but I had no idea you could have one made!

Great idea – and it will solve a wee problem I have with two children who will want the same pieces of original art from my aunt. They could each get the same number of originals and copies – perfect!

That turned out really good! I have a lot of paintings and it’s good to know that there’s a good way to copy them. Was it pricey?

      Tabitha,

It was $150 for everything. The size is 16×20 just to give you an idea.

      Take Care
