High Tea in Buenos Aires

By Janette | Food, Out and About, Travel

When I travel to a major international city, I always make it a point to seek out the best formal high tea venue around.  When we were in Buenos Aires, I found out that the Palace Alvear Hotel was the place to go.  I made reservations for Jordan, Mr. Spring, and three of our friends to enjoy high tea on a beautiful Sunday afternoon.  We were surprised and excited to see it was white glove service.  We felt so special.

The centerpiece was a simple red rose with some greenery in a clear vase.

Larger floral arrangements were on side tables in different parts of the room.

The adjacent atrium had lots of greenery and ferns.

The china was green and cream……

The six of us shared three towers of sweets and savories.  The waiter advised us to do this because the tiny servings were very filling because they were so rich.

We had finger sandwiches…..

…..and sweet little desserts.

I am sure you’ve heard the saying, “God is in the details”.  Well, look at the little chocolate disc that is in this miniature cheese cake.  The hotels logo is stamped into the disc.  Isn’t that adorable???

After we were so stuffed that we could hardly carry on a conversation, we found out we weren’t finished.  That’s when the waiter rolled out the big dessert cart.  I took mine to go, thank you very much.  I ate it for breakfast the next morning.  Just in case you’re wondering, I selected that little round cheesecake with the berry on top.  By the way, desserts of all kinds in other countries are never as sweet as they are in the good ole USA.

Take care.

You and I would be great breakfast partners – why have your sugar in cereal form when you can have a fine dessert!!! What a beautiful high tea. I love your photo of the white glove service. The china is so beautiful and elegant and really adds to the towers doesn’t it. They certainly had beautiful food. So glad I got to come along.

Tea is a wonderful treat wherever in the world one finds it. Here in Victoria, tea is important and there are many places to enjoy a good high tea. If you ever come here I’m sure you’ll try the Empress, but there are other, smaller venues, in which a traditional tea is served in a very cosy atmosphere – my preference!

Thank you for sharing a place and experience that many of us may never get to experience. Everything looked delicious, even though, yes, other countries do not love their sweets as we Americans, it all looked fabulous!

Tea served with friends in such a beautiful place is wonderful. I loved the flowers and the china. To be honest I would have looked at the bottom of the plate or saucer to see what company made it. I always embarrass my wife doing this.

Lovely! I have always wanted to visit Argentina and I met a fabulous lady from there on a trip to France. She offered to show my husband and me around, if we ever made it there. I have not, yet, but this blog is making me wonder why I have not. Thanks for sharing!

Looks wonderful. We have a historic hotel here in Coral Gables, Florida, The Biltmore Hotel. They serve a wonderful afternoon tea amidst the architectural splendor and background of this grand dame of a hotel from the 1920’s.
