Master Bath Reveal

Before we get started today, I want to brag about my father who is celebrating his 96th birthday today.  He’s as sharp as a tack, as active of a 96 year old can be, and is a dear, dear man.  We are a blessed family.

We have lived in our new place over a year, and I haven’t given you a look at our master bath yet.  We did not share the master bedroom or bath from our last house here on the blog. I wanted to keep those private areas to ourselves.  However, since this house has already been in a magazine complete with shots of the bedroom and bath, it’s time to share it with you.

  This soft blue is the third wall color that our painters applied.  First, we tried the color the rest of the house is painted in, and it didn’t go with the tile.  Then we tried a white, but it was too white.  So, finally I used the paint color we had in the master bath of our last house, and it won.

The Shaker style cabinets are made by the same company that did our kitchen. , and the sinks, faucets, toilet, etc are all by Kohler. The counter top is quartz and has just some specks of blues, beiges, and grays on the white background.  We were working with a limited amount of space because we wanted two walk-in closets in our bedroom and a second floor laundry room.  In order to have those things, the square footage came from what could have been the master bath.  In the world of master bathrooms, ours is small and basic, but it has everything we need.

We opted not to have a tub in our master bath.  I wanted a bidet and a separate makeup area instead.  Why a bidet?  We started our marriage living in Europe, and our apartment there had one.  I loved having it since it was so European.  So, each house we have built or remodeled since then has had a bidet.  I would much rather have one in our master bathroom than a tub.  And besides, the guest bath has a tub, and I go there occasionally to take a bubble bath. (I do want to replace those small prints with a big ole piece of art.)

Until last week, we had mirrors over the sink and my makeup area that I did not care for.  During construction the electricians, carpenters, and painters were all waiting for me to select mirrors.   I made a rush trip to HomeGoods and found three mirrors – two in one size and a smaller one.  Perfect.   That was what I needed so they could proceed.  However, I never liked them and have been searching since we moved in for something more my taste.  Then I saw these mirrors with the brackets on the sides at Pottery Barn, and I knew they were the ones.

We have heated tile floors in the master bath, and that, too, is a luxury we enjoy.

We still needed a rug for in front of our sinks to absorb the dampness from our feet after a shower.  Until last week I had small white rugs in front of each sink.  Then I decided to replace them with this Ruggable.  Since the top layer of a Ruggable is washable, I knew our damp feet wouldn’t hurt it.  I went with a traditional pattern and am very happy with it.  Of course, it has the navy that I love.

Our shower is also a steam shower so we can sit in there and enjoy a good sauna when we are feeling sore.

My makeup area is tucked away in the corner.  The chair came from a Paris park.  I kept the paint (lead and all) just like it was when I bought it and had my local fabric shop make a cushion for it.  That small oil painting was purchased at a local antique sale.

This is the only before photo that I could find, and it is from the real estate listing.  The new layout is completely different, but that’s the window that you see in some other shots.

I think it’s an improvement, don’t you.  That’s our master bathroom reveal.  I hope you enjoyed it.
