Adoption – It’s A Boy!!!

Hi everyone. Today is an exciting post, and I still can’t believe I am typing this.  Let’s just start from the beginning….  Yankee and I  decided to expand our family in September, 2017 by adopting again from Thailand.  Even though this “ain’t” our first rodeo, we had to start from scratch with the paperwork.  It wasn’t as daunting because we knew what to expect.  Our paperwork was officially in Thailand in January, 2018.  At that time our adoption agency gave us our number in the line, and we were expected to get matched with a little one this September.  We both thought that date was so fast.  Not long ago, Yankee and I were talking and decided to be realistic. We expected to most likely be pushed back to the December match group.

We Have An Adoption Match

Fast forward to the end of  June when I was sitting at a swim lesson for Little Miss.   I had a call coming in from our adoption agency.  It was a match month, and I thought, “Oh, they are calling to tell me we have been pushed back to December.”  I didn’t answer the call and focused on watching Little Miss practice blowing bubbles in the pool.  After swimming, we came home, made lunch, played, and eventually when I put Little Miss down for her nap, I called our agency back.  The director said, “You probably know why I am calling, and I said,  “Oh, to tell us we have been pushed back to December.”  She said that it was a large group of children in that round, and that they had a little boy for us.  I think I said, “What?” a few times and did a nervous laugh because I was not expecting this at all.  Everything happened so much faster this time, and I was shocked in a good way.  Eventually, she was able to proceed and tell us more about our son.

I called Yankee and think he was just as shocked because we were not expecting this at all.  The cool thing is when I told Yankee,  I said, “You get to share the same birthday as your son.”  Ahh… IT  just gives me goosebumps to write this because it was such cool way to tell him.

We eventually received his development and health information and some pictures.  Due to Thailand’s regulations, we cannot share photos with you until the adoption is finalized in the US and registered with the Thai Embassy.  This will be about a year after we return home with him.  I can tell you he is just adorable.  He has the biggest eyes, and I have even seen a smile in some of the pictures.  Little Miss never showed a smile in her pictures so this was a pleasant surprise.  He is a little older – 16 months. (Little Miss was 9 months old when we were matched.)

Now We Wait

The next steps are that we wait.  We have to wait for first approval from Thailand, and the board only meets twice a month.  Basically, our file is in a pile with other parents waiting to adopt, and when we will come up, they will review our case.  Once we get our first approval, we know we that about three months later we will travel to Thailand to bring him home.   The time from first approval to travel goes quickly. It seems to be the fastest part in the whole process.  Our agency says it could be around a year from now till we travel and bring our little one home.

We are so so excited to complete our family and all be together.  At this point Little Miss doesn’t know she is a big sister.  We still have a long time till we travel, and in a her eyes, it will seem like an eternity.  We will tell her once we get closer to the travel date.  We want to have time to prepare her and answer questions, but we don’t want to start those questions quite yet.  We want to focus on her and her continued growth.  We have talked about friends who have siblings, and she has asked for one so we know it will be an exciting day for her.

When we do travel, we will all go as a family and even go back to visit her foster mother, “Ya”.  I continue to write her and send her pictures.  She knows we are adopting again, and we will be visiting in the future.
