Does your house have a name? If not, have you thought about giving it one? Ever since we moved into our cottage-style home, I have wanted to give it a name. Any ole name won’t work. It has to be one that fits the house’s personality. I’m waiting for it to give me a hint.
In Britain, it is a common practice for people to name their homes. After all, we’ve all heard of Highclere Castle used in Downton Abbey. We know that Sandringham is the Queen’s country estate. However, a house doesn’t have to be grand to have a name.
Our house isn’t grand, but it still deserves a name, I think.
When my parents took a walking tour in England’s Cotswold region a while back, my mom took photos of the names of various houses/cottages in some villages. Here are a few of them. The Brits take great pride in their cottages’ names and have plaques custom made for them. When we come up with a name, I plan to have it printed here.
Aren’t they just charming? The names add personality to each home. Sometimes the cottages’ names are used instead of street numbers, and I think that’s cool, too. If you have any name suggestions for our home, please share. This is something I really want to do.
Cheers!

Dew Drop Inn
When shopping for a home in the suburbs of Boston the homes were known by their first owner. We bought the Crowley House, which happened to be on Rowley Road.
We referred to it as theCrowley on Rowley whenever anyone asked where we lived.
Emily,
I love it that is so neat how the houses are referred. Plus yours has a great sound especially to be on Rowley.
I think you already named it. The 2 Seasons or The Seasons..
Husband Veto Power Palace. If Palace is too strong maybe Place.
Spring House
Love your sweet little cottage that you have tucked away building new memories….”Sweet Seasons” comes to mind…
We jokingly call it “What’s This Place” Because my little granddaughter looked out my bedroom window at an area she had never seen and that was her response..
Wendy,
So cute.

Dream Catcher Cottage….where all of your dreams will come true.
Oh, Shirley, that’s a good one!
I was looking over the ones your mom took pictures of and I really like The Cottage!
Hi Jordon,
I’ve spent a lot of time in the Cotswolds and am very familiar with the cottages all having names. In fact, when we write to our friends their address is just Well House with their village name. Looking at your lovely cottage the name “Graystone Cottage” or “Spring House” sound like they are from the Cotswolds.
Tamara,
I love that the home names are the address. So charming. Love those ideas, thanks for sharing.
Cheers
