Happy Cyber Monday, everyone. We hope you had as much fun on your Thanksgiving week-end as we did. We drove to Washington, DC and spent the week-end with my brother and sister-in-law. My parents were there, also. Now that we are back to living in the South, we are just a six hour drive from DC and from my parents’ home in Lexington. We love to share good tips with you when we see them, and today we have a great place card idea that we think you will love.
This was the first Thanksgiving meal my sister-in-law has prepared, and we were there right beside her helping and cheering her on. When she married my brother, my grandmother in Indiana gave Josie a set of vintage china, along with her beautiful crystal, and silver flatware. My grandfather gave the silver to Grandma when they were engaged.
Josie set the most beautiful table and made Grandma’s old china look completely fresh and modern.
They purchased these chargers that totally set the mood for the table. (I liked them so much that I added them to my Christmas list.) She added a great navy and cream ikat table cloth from Homegoods, a glistening gold runner, and old brass candle holders.
Two of her friends joined us for dinner, and one of them brought two bunches of flowers. Well, it just so happens that one bunch of flowers was the same color as the lavender color in the plates. Josie put them in an old vase, and she had a perfect centerpiece paired with some willow twigs.
She had the best idea for place cards, and we think you will agree. She took instant photos of everyone using this, (it comes in lots of different colors) and put a photo in a pine cone on each plate. This photo is my dad. It was all so cute, so well thought out, and so young bride hosts Thanksgiving. You have plenty of time to get one of these cameras to do the same thing at Christmas.
The weather was so nice that both before and after dinner we were able to sip cocktails in the vintage crystal while sitting on the front porch. Instead of playing our usual lively game of Celebrity or Cranium, we ended the evening watching crazy cats videos on Youtube. It might become a tradition!!!
We have lots of great posts planned for the month of December and hope you can join us along the way.
Cheers!

Hi, this is beautiful…do you have a resource or brand for the table runner? Thanks!
Jordan says
Hi San,
The table runner was from Home Goods. Not sure if they will still have it.
Cheers!

it’s so stressful to host a big dinner. She did a great job, putting together a beautiful table. Looks like she’s fitting right in with your creative family. Happy Holidays.
