Rosemary Gin Fizz

I’m not going to lie.  I enjoy an adult beverage every now and then.  I am a one-drink girl, though.  That means when we go out or when we entertain, I have one drink – either a glass of Pinot Grigio or a gin and tonic.  So, when I saw the recipe for a rosemary gin and tonic in the latest issue of Family Circle, I was totally on board with it.  Especially since we were entertaining two friends of ours for dinner a few days after the magazine arrived in my mail slot.  I think a gin and tonic is so darned refreshing and actually started drinking them on our trips to Africa.  (The quinine in the tonic water fights malaria, and that’s one reason it became a popular drink when Africa was being colonized.)  However, since it is cold in these parts right now, the hint of rosemary makes it a great drink for a cold winter evening.  By the way, my friends really liked it and took the recipe home with them!!!

ROSEMARY GIN FIZZ

2 ounces gin

1/2 ounce fresh lime juice

1/2 once rosemary simple syrup (recipe below)

Pour these ingredients in a shaker of ice and shake for one minute.  Pour into a highball glass with ice in it.  Top with tonic or seltzer water.  Add a sprig of fresh rosemary as a garnish.  You could make a pitcher of these (adjust the recipe accordingly) ahead of time so they would be ready for your guests.

 

Rosemary Simple Syrup

1 cup sugar

1 cup water

1 sprig rosemary

Heat in a saucepan until the sugar has dissolved.  Leave the rosemary in it and allow to cool.  Strain to remove any rosemary leaves.  Will last in the refrigerator for up to one week.
