Mom and I don’t usually write a post together, but we are going to attempt it today. We were thrilled to be contacted by a company called Old Plank Road which specializes in beautiful antiques. Mom grew up in a home filled with antiques and has always loved them. When I was growing up, she had antique furniture but also had mostly high-end reproductions in her formal living room and dining room. When I saw Old Plank Road’s furniture, I knew she would love it, and the nice thing is that I found plenty of items that could fit into my world, too. So, we are each going to talk about the pieces that we liked the most from their amazing selection.
Janette – For over a year now, I have been on the look-out for the perfect new/old dining room table. I have mentioned a time or ten that the dining table that we now have in the dining area of our great room is too formal for what has become a more casual life style. I guess once the kids move out, you down-size, and start traveling, an easier lifestyle is the way to go. This table with the zinc top is pure table perfection to me now. I think if I turned it over, it might have my name on it. I love every. single. thing. about it. The worn wood, the geometric base, the rectangular top, and most of all the zinc really fit my style.
Jordan – We have been eating on a long rectangular table from Ikea since before we were married four years ago. Its style is very contemporary, but it doesn’t have much character. This 18th century antique french elm wood farm table would fit the size of our room and add so much warmth and personality to our 1928 bungalow. I love the drawer on the end which would be the perfect place to store our flatware, and I love the dark wood. It would be the perfect mate for our rehabbed hutch.
Janette – If you are regular readers of The 2 Seasons, then you know that I spend a month or so each year traveling around Europe. I always see these enamelware coffee pots at the outdoor street markets there. The great thing about this one is that you can buy it while sitting on your sofa. You don’t need to hop on a plane to have the old-world look right in your own home. It’s aged and rugged and loaded with stories that we’ll never know about.
Jordan – I have always loved the look and history of an antique desk. This one would go so well in our study which we recently completed. This American banded mahogany desk with tooled leather top has a masculine look to it, but a vase of flowers on top would add the feminine touch, if you want. Just imagine all of the business deals that have taken place with this desk as the back drop. Maybe it was in a lawyer’s office or in the home office of a town’s only doctor. Or maybe it was in a gentleman’s study, and he retreated to his desk after dinner to smoke a cigar and work on his correspondence. That’s the kind of history that precious pieces of furniture like this can bring to our modern-day homes.
Jordan – I want to put these two 1930’s classic French leather club chairs in the same room with the desk. Mr. Spring is crazy about them. They would fit right into any man cave.
Janette – This adorable c. 1880 French walnut daybed in the style of Louis XV would be the most welcoming piece of furniture in a little girl’s room. She can snuggle in it with her dolls, spend time reading a good book, or dream of princes in far away lands. The great thing about this daybed is its versatility. It would also be right at home in the corner of a formal living room, large master bath, or owners’ suite.
Janette – Most armoires that we see are massive and have double doors. This c.1690 original antique French single door armoire obviously didn’t get the memo. It will provide the extra storage and the look of its big brother, but the size might be more appropriate for today’s room dimensions.
Jordan – Mr Spring would love this custom ebonized French Louis XVI style vanity with steel trim. It has the double sinks, which we so desperately need, and its uncluttered, straight lines are on the masculine side. There is plenty of storage for both him and me, and he would love the dark wood finish.
Janette – I can think of a million uses for this metal towel bar with birds. Of course, the traditional place for it would be a bathroom, but it would be great in a laundry room for hanging clothes that can’t handle the dryer. It would work in a mudroom as a place to hang wet bathing suits, beach towels, scarves, and gloves. It could be used in a girls room to hang ribbons and bows, or you could use it to help create a wrapping station in your craft or hobby room.
Jordan Mom and I both love both of these old mail boxes. This one is a vintage French iron postal box, and…..
this one is, too. You could use it outside to do the obvious, or they can be conversation starters inside your house. They would look cute in among your artwork on a gallery wall or just hold string, or rubber bands in your home office.

This is a sponsored post, however all opinions are our own.
I love the mailbox! We went to a really great home tour a year or so ago and the homeowner had several mailboxes in the house. She put flower arrangements in one or two and it was so cute!
Stacey,
Putting flower arrangements in mailboxes is a cute idea. I am sure that homeowner had a great house!
Cheers
