Gettin’ Artsy

By Janette | Projects

It’s been a while since we did an art update around here.  Today seemed like a good time to do it.

A few weeks ago, I showed you an abstract painting that I did using this method, and I showed you where it was going to go.

Thanks to Mr. Right’s help, it is now hanging in its permanent spot.

It definitely brightens up the great room and adds a colorful impact with its bright colors.

I have a pen and ink drawing of our last house, a watercolor of our first house, but I didn’t have any art work depicting the house in between.  When we moved to Lexington, we built a brick cape cod house on a ten-acre piece of land.  The house was large ( 7,000 square feet).  At the time I had a full-time job, Mr. Right was traveling a lot with his job, and our children were in a private school miles away.  We wasted spent many hours doing yard work that we knew would have to be done again in just a few days.  When our son was a senior in high school, we sold it and moved to a smaller house with a small lot in the suburbs.  Jordan and our son Cory gave me a painting of the house for my birthday.

I added it to our gallery wall in the hallway.  I am not going to frame it because the artist wrapped the paint around the edges in a really cool way.

I love it, and it fits right in with the other two houses.  The one on the right is the drawing of the house in the suburbs.  We lived there until three years ago when we down-sized to this townhouse.  The brick house on the top is the first house we built.  It was a charming Dutch colonial, and we brought baby Jordan home from the hospital to that house.

I probably should be shot for showing you this one, but I’m puttin’ it out there.  One day in art class we painted a still life of some potted hydrangeas.  I did a very impressionistic version on a 16 x 20 inch canvas.  This is hanging in our sunroom.

And finally, I took this photo on a bicycling trip in France in 2012.  I am now painting it in oils.  I have added a punch of color by making the door a aged greenish blue.  I love this photo because of the textures, perspective and colors.  I’ll be sure to show it to you when I am finished.

Take care.

I love your art collection of your homes. We were transferred many times with my husband’s career and finally get to stay in one place in retirement. I have a collection of our 15 homes hung in one of my hallways. It’s always a conversation piece.

    Jeanette:
I agree with you about not framing this painting if the artist wrapped the color around the canvas but what about mounting it on a black board or black cloth wrapped board to give it a framed out or matted look and increase the mass of the picture to be closer in size to others? Just a thought….
