Hi, everyone. We hope you had a great week-end. Jordan spent the week-end camping and kayaking in the Adirondacks, and I nursed Mr. Right who had some knee repair work done. I have something on my mind today, and I am wondering if I am the only person out there with this situation. First, I truly realize this is a first-world problem, and I am lucky to have it, but that doesn’t mean I have to like it.
I can sum it up in ones word: Wires
We have one of those ugly television boxes, and unfortunately, it has to sit on our mantel. I got the bright idea to move it to the table next to the mantel and disguise the wires. It was impossible. These aren’t the television’s electrical wires. Noooooo. We had them installed behind the television when we remodeled. These wires all belong to the cable box.
All of these wires were stuffed behind the television. They are too long to be there, but yet too short to reach the box on the table. And do we need so many of them? Really? I ordered one of those little devices that is the size of an Atomic Fireball to take the place of the wires. It was supposed to stick incognito to the bottom of the television and read the commands from the remote. Meanwhile, the box could be hidden someplace else. It didn’t work.
We use Insight (shame on you, Insight), but I saw a commercial from another company (Direct TV) saying we could receive cable without a box. I called them. There’s a box. Isn’t that false advertising???? It isn’t even a little box. It’s a large as the one we already have yet they say no box. Is anyone out there feeling my pain? Can I get a collective, “Amen?”

I do feel your pain! I have been trying to figure this our as I plan my home addition. I am going to talk with my contractor for his suggestions. If he comes up with something good, I will pass it in.

I totally understand where you are coming from. I have no new suggestions…but I agree….it will take a woman designer/engineer to come up with something different!

We have Direct TV and the you are right the box is big. It is a dilemma that I hope will get solved with technology SOON. In the meantime, our TV & necessary paraphernalia sit in and on a console with a tangle of wires hidden behind. Ugh.

we had this problem, but switched to Dish. Can’t say enuf for their products. There’s a “master” unit in another room and in our front room we have a little tiny box attached to the back of the TV that is called a “slave” unit. We get all the same DVR and other options on the front room unit, but no box shows. I promise you. I am just a customer and receive no compensation for this endorsement.
If you decide to switch to Dish, be sure you contact a local provider who has a shop and services repairs etc. Some providers just do installations and sales, but don’t have any continuing customer service. Stay away from the free lancers and seek out an office that services any needed repairs.
