We are loving our new white fireplace. You can read about the before here. It really pops and makes a statement in the room. When we first walked through the house, we loved the way the fireplace was angled in the corner. We always pictured ourselves sitting in the living room by the fire as the snow falls outside. Well, the snow is falling outside, but the fire is not roaring. We decided when we bought our house that we were going to turn our wood-burning fireplace into a gas fireplace. There seemed to be so many pros with getting a gas insert fireplace. The room would actually heat up instead of the heat escaping through the chimney was a huge factor. Also, there would be less mess, and we would not have to clean up ashes.
A quick click of a button would turn the fire on, and we could turn it off with that same button when we were ready for bed. That eliminated the fear of a random spark causing a fire.
Before we headed to the store, my husband measured to make sure we had the correct dimensions to show the salesman. We chose to go to a highly- recommended store in Syracuse so we would be sure to get the best advice. When we walked in, we were thrilled with all the gas insert options. We met with one of the owners and started discussing our fireplace and what we were looking for in a gas insert. My husband gave the owner the dimensions, and we could see his face drop. Since we live in an old house, the fireplace is too small for a typical gas insert. Just when we were slowly coming to terms with this, the owner pulled out a manual for another company that might offer the right option. He showed us the book for Valor Fireplaces and pointed to the Windsor Arch Insert. It had a smaller more historic looking insert that should fit into our fireplace.
The flame’s dimensions would be much smaller than what we anticipated, but it would fit our look since the insert is black.. We kept thinking about the pros of the instant on/instant off flames until the owner told us to brace ourselves for the price tag. It was $4,500!
We believe in only paying cash for any and all items. We planned and budgeted for updating the fireplace, but we didn’t plan or budget this much. Should we continue to save or just stick with the wood logs? I would love to hear what you all think. Real or fake? Let me know in the comment form below.
