Hi there. I’ve been at it again. There is a little table in our great room that is the smallest of a set of nesting tables that my mother-in-law gave us.
Because we only used the smallest one, I returned the other two to her a few years ago. It is a sweet little size and is mahogany.
It fits perfectly beside our sofa. I sit in this spot every evening reading blogs, working my crosswords, watching the news……and the Housewives from wherever. It doesn’t matter. I love them all. You can’t write that stuff. Whoops. Let’s get back to the table.
Well, anyway, the table has a glass top. For a while now, I have been wondering how I could make it more interesting.
Then I decided to use a paper insert.
I headed to a craft store just like any good DIY girl would do when she has a mission. I bought two pieces of scrap book paper for the grand total of 50 cents plus tax. One sheet is about 1/4 of an inch too short on both ends, and so I bought the plain green sheet to work as a border.
After just a few minutes, the paper was inside the table and it was back together.
With this particular paper, the table looks like a shadow box. If you are a regular reader of our blog, then you know we are a family of travelers. The travel log and passport fit right in.
An old black and white post card of the Eiffel Tower is in the bottom left corner. You know how I love old post cards.
The upper right hand corner has some old Paris stamps, a pair of old glasses, and a time piece.

I’m normally not one who likes to see wood painted but in this case I think it would be perfect and make it customized! That’s a great idea with the paper you found for it.

Love your table! Maybe not Antique White but a beautiful Green color? XO Cindy

What a great table. I love the table and such a great idea. You chose a very interesting display and you can change it up when you want. Fun. Thanks tons for joining TTT. Hugs, Marty

I love what you’ve done with the table top. I don’t think I’d paint it white if it were mine. I’d prefer black – matte finish.

Absolutely paint it. I saw a design blog that used chalk paint and then waxed it. The finished look was wonderful – a depth of color plain paint couldn’t achieve.

I would definitely NOT paint the table–too Shabby Chic. this looks interesting and more like YOU!!

Do you have other painted pieces in the room? The photos show a nice collectiony of antiques in wood tones, and I think one little white table might not be as harmonious as things look now.
Sister Parrish always said no more than three pieces of brown furniture in a room, but in your case the room looks lovely as is.

I love how that simple change made such a huge difference. The table is totally charming, as is; but a soft paint (that picks up a color in the paper) would also look great!

Hi,
I think the table look perfect just the way it is. The neat paper you chose is greatly accented by the dark wood. What a great idea you had, really loved the paper, so neat.
they have so many wonderful scrap booking papers.
Thanks for sharing you lil DIY project, you did a great job.
Blessings, nellie

I love how this vignette has such personal meaning, and it looks so pretty! If it was me I would paint the table an antique white. I think it would make everything under the glass stand out more, and plus since you already have a lot of different wood tones in the room, it would really make this table unique and special. BUT it is SO beautiful already, so what ever you decide, it is already gorgeous! Great project!!

Oh I would leave it just the way it is. It is just beautiful and I agree it looks so interesting!!

I vote to leave it as is. Mahogany is such a pretty color of wood and next to the white sofa it provides more contrast than off white would. Just one humble opinion……. 😉
Carolyn Rasnick says
I said white sofa……I know it is not white but a light neutral color, same as you indicated the table paint would be. Just wanted to clarify!!

Hi Neighbor! I love what you did with the tabletop. That’s a great idea and I agree with just about everyone else….leave it like it is. The Mahogany looks great beside your couch. Thanks for visiting and enjoy your evening, Gail

This little redo to the side table is so cute! What a difference some scrapbook can make! Humm, not sure what to say about painting it. I could see a darker richer stain on it though. Thank you for joining TTF and I hope you have a fantastic weekend!
