I Painted the Armoire

By Janette | Before and After, Decorating, Projects

I painted the armoire and am excited to share the results with you.

Hello, everyone.  We hope your week is going well.  I am so happy to report that yesterday I checked off a pesky item on the to-do list that has been there since last summer.  I painted the armoire that sits on our porch.  First off, the reason it is on our porch is because we added shelves to it and use it to store our shoes.  We walk right past it every time we enter and leave our house.  We do not wear outside shoes inside, and so, it’s a perfect place to make the shoe exchange before we walk around in our house.  Second, you might be thinking, “Wasn’t it painted before?”  Yes.  Continue to read on, and I will explain.

Annie Sloan Chalk Paint Originally

Our big armoire was gray, specifically Annie Sloane Paris Grey chalk paint, which is a wonderful color.  I painted it a few years ago when we lived in our last house.  The armoire was lovely, and the transformation from its original mahogany finish to grey gave it a good look.  It wore the grey well. I distressed it a little which made it look even better.

Why  I Painted It

I switched to a new color for two reasons.  We don’t have anything else in our house that is grey.  It just didn’t fit in with our other furnishings, I felt.  Also, I have been making some changes to lighten up the porch area (read about that here), and this was just another step in that direction.

The New Paint Color

The new paint is the same color as the walls in our house and drywall portion of the porch.  It is Sherwin Williams Stucco with 50 percent pigment.  I love this color mostly because there aren’t any unwanted undertones.  It really makes me happy.  I sanded the new paint so that some of the old paint and even the mahogany showed through to give it more of an old and aged look. I am really pleased with the final result and am now wondering why I waited so long to do this little task that took just two hours.

Have you painted any furniture lately?

Take care.
