We are so excited to share a peak at the project happening at our house. Here’s our new addition update.
I hope everyone had a good weekend. We try to have a schedule and routine during the week so the weekends are more laid back for us right now. We ordered a playset for our children since they can no longer go to the nearby park. That was one of their favorite activities. Our playset arrived Saturday, and Charles put it together right away. Here he is putting on the finishing touches. The kids are loving it. Little Miss is so excited to swing and do flips on the bar. Google is enjoying going up and down the slide.
Today I thought it would be fun to share a new addition update. Before I start….. while North Carolina is at a stay at home order, contractors are considered essential and have the okay to work. We talked at a distance to our contractor to make sure his guys were okay to work, and they wanted to work. It is a good project in the sense that we have closed off our house, and they are able to enter on a ladder through the second floor to get in and do work. Before they come for the day, we wipe down and bleach things we might have touched. That’s mainly the gate where they enter and the door handle to get inside from outside. Google and Little Miss have had a blast watching from their playroom. Somehow Google is able to sleep like a champ during his nap through all the pounding and hammering.
This picture was on the listing of the house, and you can see we have French doors that lead from our bedroom onto a little rendezvous deck. I clearly remember when we bought the house that this was a selling feature. We thought it was so nice that we could sit and have a glass of wine up there. I felt like I was on House Hunters saying that statement. Well, we never had a glass of wine on that rendezvous because we have three other covered porches. So, there was no need to go upstairs.
This picture is also from the listing. We started to notice some water damage coming down from the top. So, one thing led to another, and now here we are in the middle of a renovation. I have talked about it on our Instastories but am not sure if I have explained it here on the blog. We are now adding an extention on top of the porch. We will add a laundry room at the top right corner. It will be off the master bath and bedroom. While some might not like that set up, I love it. We did a home tour a few years ago, and I saw a laundry room off the master and I thought it made so much sense. I am the one who does all of the laundry so it will work for me. Then we are pushing out the master bedroom over the porch on the left. With the extra space where part of the master was, we are adding a walk in closet. It will be home to my sauna and give us extra closet space. We have also added a small office for Charles. Too bad he doesn’t have it now because he, like many others, is working from home. His office will fit a desk and his bike. It’s a very small man cave, but he is excited about it.
They removed the porch and last weekend. The kids loved pretending it was their stage. We had multiple bubble shows with Elsa as the leading act. One thing I noticed when the porch was off the house was the amount of light that came into our house. The living room and playroom are at the back of the house, and there so much light. As soon as they started rebuilding the porch, that added benefit went away.
Framing !!!! I love seeing the framing because it goes so fast, and we can really start to visualize the space.
Here is the framing inside. I am standing in the old part of the master bedroom looking at Charles’s office. He will have French doors looking out into the hall. The other framed out room behind the small office is our walk-in closet.
So, that’s where we are at the moment. Next up will be window installation, plumbing and electrical. How long this all takes will be determined by how quickly all of the subcontractors can do their jobs. Construction is booming in our area, and we have to wait our turn. We are busy trying to select the flooring tiles, but really there are not many decisions to make.
We will keep you updated as progress is being made.
Cheers!

Looks good Jordan. Can’t wait to see the progress. How about including a drawing of the current floor plan and one of the renovation to help us envision the changes. Hope you and your family stay safe and healthy during these difficult times.
