You might think it’s late to be talking about a sun hat, but that’s okay. I was on the look out for a new hat to protect me from the sun during my upcoming 200 mile hike on the El Camino de Santiago. If I am spending more than a few minutes outside, then I wear a hat. (You can read about my skin care here.) I have a cute straw, summer sun hat that I wear when walking to church, to the movies, to movies, shopping, etc. I also have a dorky looking hat that I wear when taking a walk for exercise or when working outside in the yard. I even have a Tilley hat that I use when we go on our mission trips. However, none of those hats would work on my hike. I didn’t want to look dorky, the brim on the Tilley isn’t quite wide enough for this trek, and the straw wouldn’t pack easily.
I researched and found the cutest hat that meets all of my needs. It has an SPF of 50 which was my number one requirement. Being packable was important, and it had to look good. Also, the brim needed to be wide enough to keep the sun out of my eyes and off of my face.
The hat I found is less than $15.00. In fact, Jordan liked it so much that she wore it when we took Google to the children’s garden at the arboretum. He loves anything with a motor and was crazy about the Thomas the Train exhibit. The hat has an opening in the back for a pony tail. My daughter-in-law, who also has long hair, liked it so much that she ordered one for herself. I have short hair, and it looks just fine.
And here’s the bonus. It comes in seven different colors. I picked orange for two reasons. Orange is my second favorite color, and I figured Mike would be able to find me easily if we get separated on our hike.
So, if you are looking for a no-fail sun hat, you can buy it here.
If you are over summer and only thinking about cool/cold weather, then I have another cute hat for you. I bought this one in black, but I plan to buy it in a few more colors, too. It comes in 16 colors, and it’s less than $20.00. You can buy it here.
And if you’re interested in only a Tilley, then here’s a link for it. I have this one.
I leave for my hike in just a few days. We have tons of blog posts in the coffers and ready for you so it will be business as usual here on the blog. Jordan will be minding the store, so if you need anything, just send her an email.
Take care.

I do like that hat – pinned! I have the same Tilley as yours, and also a wider brimmed sun hat from Sun Precautions. Thanks for sharing.
