Our Trip to California

We recently spent a long week-end in California with our son, daughter-in-law, and her family.  It was such a great time, and I just happened to take a few photos to show you.

We landed at the Los Angeles airport on a Thursday afternoon.  Since our husbands had some business to do in south L.A., we rented two cars.  While the guys worked, we ladies headed to Chateau Marmont for lunch.  Now, you probably have heard of Chateau Marmont.  It is where many of the stars hang out, live, or eat.  It has quite a history with big-time Hollywood movie stars.  We had lunch in the courtyard restaurant, and no one is allowed to take photos there.  That’s so the stars can have some privacy.  It was very quiet and hush, hush, and we were treated like royalty.  (After all Josie has been nominated for an Academy Award and has won an Emmy, so, she’s a star in her own right.)   As each person walks into the courtyard, everyone stares to see if they are someone.  We saw Spike Lee, Randy Jackson, and possibly Orlando Bloom (not sure on that one).

 

Since I had not been to L.A. for years and years, we decided to ride around after lunch, and then we headed to Beverly Hills.  We rode past some stars’ homes.  The joke was that we tried to find Larry King’s house, and we did.  We also found Taylor Swift’s new $25 million fixer-upper.  It is at the end of a very tiny cul de sac on a very ritzy street.  There’s was a big fence, and so we really couldn’t see much of the house, but it was was once owned by Sam Goldwyn, the studio owner.  We guessed that her view was incredible.

 

We spent that night in a hotel in L.A., and the next morning we headed to Santa Barbara where we went whale watching.

 

 

That was great fun, and we actually had a bunch of sightings.

 

 

Then we headed to Carpenteria where we rented a beach-side house for the week-end.  Let me tell you that this house was gorgeous.  In fact, it has been used in some movies, and it was all ours for the week-end.  Just pinch me.  We spent the afternoon there and went out to eat with some of Josie’s California family members that night.

 

 

 

On Saturday we had brunch, went shopping, watched football, played games, and had a great meal of fish tacos and these spicy margaritas.

 

 

Sunday morning we drove to Santa Barbara for mass at the Santa Barbara Mission.  It was one of the most beautiful services I have ever attended.  That afternoon we just hung out at the house.  It was so beautiful, and the weather was perfection.  We didn’t want to be anywhere else.

 

 

 

Monday morning the six of us went to the Reagan Presidential Library.  I had just read Killing Reagan, and seeing Reagan’s historic memorabilia was very timely.  Then we saw the movie “Spectre” and took the red-eye back home to Lexington.  It was a wonderful way to spend a long week-end with family.
