Welcome to our favorite month. There’s everything to love about October. We always like to revisit a post from the same month last year, and when we saw the recipe for the best cinnamon biscuits, we knew that is the post we need to reshare. These biscuits really are that good. Enjoy the revisit.
A few years ago we shared a biscuit recipe with you that we consider the best one ever. That is until now. I have made a few tweaks to the original, and am thrilled to share a recipe for the best cinnamon biscuits ever with you today. This all came about because I saw a commercial on television for a fast food chain’s biscuits. As I watched the ad, I said to myself “Woman, I can take you down.” With just two more ingredients and a little glaze on top, these biscuits are close cousins to cinnamon rolls, but they aren’t as difficult or time consuming. They are a perfect autumn/winter breakfast (or snack) food, and they’d be great with brunch or lunch.
BEST CINNAMON BISCUITS EVER
2 cups all purpose flour
4 teaspoons baking powder (If you want to make your own baking powder, here’s how.)
3 teaspoons sugar
1 tablespoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup crisco
1/2 cup dried cranberries
2/3 cup milk
1 egg
Cinnamon glaze
Preheat the oven to 450 degrees. Sift or whisk the first five ingredients together. Cut in the crisco. Mix the milk and egg together and add along with the dried cranberries. Stir gently till all ingredients are well-combined, and then knead on a lightly floured surface 20 times. Roll out to about 3/4 inch thickness and cut with a biscuit cutter. Place on an ungreased baking sheet (I use a Silpat on mine) and bake 10 to 12 minutes. Remove from oven and top with a cinnamon glaze made from 1 cup powdered sugar, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, and 4 teaspoons milk. Add more liquid if you want the glaze to be thinner.
This has been a really popular recipe for us, and if you haven’t already baked them, then it’s time.
Have a great week-end!
Take care.
