The other day when I was browsing the aisles of Target, I discovered that they had removable wallpaper. I thought… hmm… I want to add a little something to the back of the bookcases in our office, and this would be the perfect thing. I tossed a few rolls into my cart, and I was ready to head home.
I decided to go for this yellow and white pattern. It was something light that wouldn’t be in your face too much. The nice thing is if I want something more dramatic, I can remove this and apply another pattern.
Here are the bookcases with the white background.
Are these shelves styled perfectly and ready for a magazine shoot? No. Is this a true working bookshelf? Yes. Both Yankee and I are always coming in and grabbing books from the shelves. While we do love our Kindles, there is something special about real books in the home.
This was super easy. All I did was take everything off the shelves and measure. I set up the rolls on the table and measured and cut to size to fit the shelves. Once the pieces were cut, I removed the backing and pressed the paper to the back of the shelves. I did this by myself, but two people would make it a tad easier. It isn’t as messy as hanging real wallpaper because water and glue are not needed.
Voila! It was just a small change that adds a little something more to these shelves. Now looking at the photos, I want to add hardware to the bottom cabinets.
Here is part of our travel section along with the submarine Yankee was given after he left the submarine force and went to a shore tour in the Navy.
Hope you enjoyed this quick and easy project that anyone can do.
Cheers!

Again, what I love about your blog….you give ideas of things I CAN do. What a difference and when you tire of it, just rip it down!

Kathy,
Ahh we love that you love our blog! I think one day I will rip it down and try something really bold. Plus if I don’t like it just take it off. Thank you for reading!

So did you have to do any seams/joints?
I wonder how easy it is to reposition the paper to get it placed ‘just so’?
Jordan says
Ang,
I had to match up the seams on the wall paper because the length did not cover the back. It was not hard to match up the patterns and apply. I was thinking it would be harder than it was so I am glad I jumped in and did this project. I didn’t do any joints and if I needed to reposition the paper it was easy to remove and try again.
Cheers!
