I know that title sounds very “Oh, la, la”, but really, I’m just talking about breakfast at a bakery down the street. However, that bakery isn’t just your typical ole donut kind of USA bakery. If I didn’t know better, I would think the National Boulangerie and Patisserie, which is located a ten-minute walk from my house, was plucked right out of the middle of France and put down here in Lexington.
The building has 16,000 square feet and is in a section of Walton Avenue that is having a major redevelopment and reuse of old industrial style spaces. The new owners painted this great design on the floor, added bright red pleather banquets and teeny little round tables topped with pink Norwegian marble. The pink marble might sound horrible, but it is pure perfection in this space. I love that they had the nerve to pair pink with the red.
Bakeries in France are just places where people run in, buy what they want, and leave. I have never seen one that sells beverages. This boulangerie/patisserie has quite the beverage menu.
Everything is so nicely displayed.
I love that they flipped a dresser drawer upside down and made it into a stand for some of their baked goods.
The couple who owns the business has extensive restaurant experience. She is originally from Kentucky but spent years working in the food industry in New York City. He is from France.
Their cakes make the supermarket bakery cakes look a lot less attractive. Can I hear a collective yum???
Even with just my iphone photos, the baked goods look scrumptious.
My homemade butter tastes even better on their baquettes. At least, I think it does!!!
If you would rather have something healthier, they have you covered. They have built a “beer hall” that sells delicious sandwiches and a variety of brews in another part of the building, and it has its own entrance. Plus, they will be opening a food/wine shop soon. It is now being constructed.
They sure know how to take care of the details. What a great way to brew my tea that I drank while eating a currant scone.
How wonderful it is to have such a fabulous place near you!…Those breads and cakes look amazing and I love the dining area…I could definitely go there every day!!!…Looks like a great place to relax and enjoy some great treats!
Good Morning!! I have been enjoying your blog for a while now!! I live in Lexington too. Just had to say you are making me very hungry and I must try this new bakery soon!!
Sue, you definitely need to check it out.
The 10 minute walk should help burn off some of the calories! In Toronto, we have a Patisserie called Bonjour Brioche that is similar to this. Yum and Yum again. My little granddaughters love to munch on chocolate croissants!
Lorraine, we used to have a place on Yonge and St. Clair in Toronto. It was our get-away condo, and I loved it. My husband was doing a lot of work up there, and so we decided just to have a place to stay when we were there. I really miss it.
That’s quite the temptation so close to home. I don’t know how you resist…I couldn’t do it! 😉
They are certainly on to something in that beautiful space. I can imagine that the funfetti cake will be in great demand for birthdays!
Oh my! This looks wonderful..may have to venture south from Cincinnati some weekend to Lexington!
Maureen, Lexington is a vacation destination for a lot of people. There’s a lot to do here, including eating baquettes!
