A Tour Through Blogland

By Jordan | Uncategorized

We are honored to have been invited by Ashley from Our Temporary Home to participate in this Tour Through Blogland.  We were  able to meet Ashley at the Haven blog conference this year in Atlanta.  This little tour gives our readers a chance to learn a little bit about Mom and me and to also learn about some new/different bloggers.

It is always fun to meet bloggers in real life. Plus, we can talk about decorating and DIY projects all day long, and bloggers get it. Ashley is a new blogger, but she already has some great projects from furniture makeovers to a whole new bathroom where the final product is just beautiful.  She recently posted how to make a paint chip calendar and turn it into a command center.   I love this idea.  It is a cute and fun way to everybody’s schedule in the home.

Now it’s time for the part of the blogland tour when we answer a few questions. We both will answer, so enjoy!

1)  What am I working on?

Janette – Right now I am starting to finally put away summer and start pulling out some of my fall pillows, throws, lamps, etc.  Fall is my favorite season, and I really like the way our house looks in the autumn light.

Jordan – I am in the same boat as my mom.  As much as I hate to put away my summer items, the temperatures here are giving us true fall weather.  I am also working on some more art for the walls in my freshly painted guest room.

2)  How does my work differ from others of its genre?

Janette – Our lifestyle blog is somewhat different because we blog together as mother/daughter.  Jordan lives in the north, and I am in the south.  She has been married for four years, and we have been married forever.  She and her husband have been living in their first house together and making it a home.  We are now empty-nesters and have downsized to a townhouse.  Just coordinating this creation of ours long-distance really does make us different from most.

Jordan –  Like many others, we are a lifestyle blog.  With that theme, we can pretty much blog about anything like decorating, travel, food, books, projects, upcycling.  We differ because we get to put our own stamp on projects to make them our own.  We might get an idea in a magazine, from another blogger, or on Pinterest, but when we recreate that project our way, then it is our taste, technique, etc.

3)  Why do I write/create what I do?

Janette – I majored in journalism in college, and my first job after graduating was as a reporter on a small daily newspaper.  It was my favorite job of all time, but sadly I gave it up for teaching, which I did for 18 years.  I missed writing and decided blogging would be a great way to get me back to what I love doing.

.

Jordan – Writing this blog is my journal, but I choose to share it.  I think it is great that one day my children will be able to go back and read about what their mom and grandmother were doing and creating.

4) How does our writing/creating process work?

Janette – As a trained journalist, I was  taught to sit down and start typing.  So, that’s what I do.  Of course, I need something to write about.  Jordan and I talk almost daily about what’s coming up and what is on our calendars and to-do lists.

Jordan– When we are being good bloggers, we keep our projects and blog ideas on a calendar so we know exactly who is doing what, and what will be published and when.  When we are being bad bloggers, we call each other an hour before our self-imposed deadline and see if the other person has something to write about.  When I write I post I just sit down and go to town.  When I am done writing I stop and walk away.  I do not re read my post to check for errors till another sitting at the computer.

Next Week’s Bloggers

This tour is so much fun, and now we get to  introduce you to some other great bloggers whom we have invited to do next week’s tour.  I will add links to the post next week, but be sure to check out these creative and talented ladies.

First is Wendy whom we had lunch with one day at Haven.  She is so sweet, and she has the blog Antebellum 1862. Wendy lives in the south with her husband and two daughters. She says her blog is about simple living in the south, (which I love.)  She decorates, does projects and cooks up some southern dishes.

Wendy has a variety of projects on her blog, but I loved how she took reclaimed wood and made this wooden whale.

Sidewalk final - A Tour Through Blogland

Kathy recently had a great post that is very relevant right now called 5 ways to get your house ready for fall.  I have done a few of the things and need to get busy with the rest.

Please check out their blog tour posts next Monday, Sept. 22.

Cheers! and Take Care
