A few weeks ago Jordan and I wrote here on the blog that we were going to each paint our guest bedrooms using the same color. Her guest room was gold, and it was the only bedroom they did not paint after moving into their bungalow. Our guest room was a bright yellow, and frankly, I was just over that color. We knew we wanted a neutral that had soft yellow undertones instead of green, pink, gray, or greige undertones. We settled on a color called Creme by Sherwin Williams. I used SW paint, and she had Home Depot mix the color up for her using Behr paint.
And here it is. One of my favorite sayings comes to mind when I look at this photo: “Same, same but different.”
It’s still sporting its summer look, but this comforter and shams will be put away in a few weeks in preparation for the cooler weather. Meanwhile, I want to enjoy the room with all of its brightly colored accessories.
I switched out the plates that were over the bed before. They are now hanging in the foyer. These blue plates, which were originally in the foyer, are now here. I’ll show you how the plates look in the foyer soon.
I didn’t make a lot of changes with the room’s accessories. These pillows that I made still are on the bed, but I’ll go darker for fall.
My grandmother’s church hat still hangs on the bed post. And by the way, you can really see the yellow undertones in this shot. All of the doors and trim are painted pure white by SW.
Here’s the side by side. You can see that it is a lot tamer. The original color paired with the morning sun meant I practically needed to wear sunglasses in the room. Now I can just enjoy the peace and calmness of the new color. I still need to paint the ensuite bathroom, but unless I’m hit with a major case of energy, that little project will just have to wait till winter.
Jordan’s results were just as satisfying. You will be seeing them soon. So, have you freshened up any rooms with paint lately?

Looks beautiful! Much tamer. My bathroom was yellow at one time, I was always trying to turn the light off in there … and it wasn’t on! Yellow is good to brighten dark rooms. I love the softness of your new color, it’s fresh and clean looking. Looks good with your furniture. Your summer decor is pretty too! Have a great day!

You can never go wrong with cream. The guest room looks lovely. We recently completed a rather large project. Now that we’re empty nesters we decided to transform our boys’ game room into an exercise room for ourselves. It’s a very large, very sunny room which is you can see directly into (via a hallway) when you reach the top of the stairs. The right color choice was imperative (isn’t it always, haha!) I really reached out of my comfort zone and painted the walls Rosemary Sprig (Ben. Moore), Minced Onion (ceiling) and Linen White (trim). It’s absolutely gorgeous! I hung Country Curtains’ Buffalo Check in sage on the double windows and I’m sure I’m never going to change it! Reaching outside your comfort zone can definitely be a good thing! Enjoy your day!
