This easy hummus recipe is simple to assemble and inexpensive. And the best part of all is that it is delicious!!! I love a good hummus served with some fresh veggies or pita triangles. Don’t get me wrong. The kind you can buy at the grocery suits me just fine. But tasting my first homemade hummus a few years back was a game changer. After that, I knew the store-bought kind would never taste the same again. Eager to make my own, I spent some time looking for a recipe, and when I saw what the main ingredients are, I just came up with my own concoction.
You might have most of the ingredients in your pantry, but there is one odd ball in the mix. It is called tahini, and it’s a sesame paste. A jar of it is around $6.00, but as long as you keep it in your fridge, it will last a while, and over time, that jar along with the other ingredients will save you a boat load of money compared to the price of the store-bought hummus. (Before we get to the recipe, Jordan and I have an announcement in our last paragraph. Be sure to check it out).
EASY HUMMUS
1 can chick peas, drained but reserve liquid
2 garlic cloves, chopped
2 tablespoons tahini
2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice, (more can be added to suit your tastes)
1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
1/2 teaspoon sea salt
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
Put all of the ingredients in food processor and pulse till chopped. Add a little reserved liquid at a time while continuing to pulse. When it is the thickness you want, blend for 30 seconds to a minute. I like the mixture to be nice and smooth, but some people prefer the hummus to have some texture. You can add some paprika and a little olive oil to the top for garnish, if you want. Serve with fresh vegetables or pita pieces.
