Greetings all. Today is the last day of my mom’s visit, but we made a lot of progress. We finished the laundry area, redid our first floor powder room, and worked on a bunch of mini-projects in between. We can’t wait to share them all with you, so be sure to keep checking in.

First, though, I want to show you my birthday gift from my parents. This light is not the gift. Most of you know that we live in a 1928 Craftsman bungalow that is loaded with charm. Although the kitchen is large, we do not have it set up as an eat-in kitchen. So, we eat in our dining room every night.
However, this room did not have a working overhead power source although it once did. About two months ago, we hired an electrician to come add more some outlets around the house and power to the dining room ceiling. Occasionally, we ate by candlelight, but more often than not, we used two pole lamps that were situated in the corners.
Thank goodness we had the electrician do his thang because my parents gave me/us a new dining room light for my birthday. And it’s not just any light. It’s one that was in the Young House Love collection by Shades of Light.
It arrived yesterday, and Mr. Spring hung it for me, with my assistance, right away. And let me just tell you that I am crazy about it.
Even though Mom ordered it within seconds of John and Sherry’s partnership announcement, the light was on back order, and I waited about a month for it. Anyway, I’m glad it finally arrived, and did I mention that I love it?
Here’s the view from the kitchen. Even though it was still daylight when we took these shots, we closed the shades and turned on the light so you could get a peek. It’s just the exclamation point this room needed. I think it says that this is an old house, but a young couple lives here. Don’t you agree????
This is the view from our living room. We placed the dining table off-center so that there is a nice clear walkway. The light had a nice chain so that we could swag it and center it over the table. It uses an old-fashion bulb that puts out a soft yellowish glow. How fun!! Thanks Mom and Dad for the great gift!!!
