Same, Same but Different Lamp

By Janette | Decorating

I mentioned yesterday that I did some puttering around the house this week-end and completed a bunch of mini-projects.  Well, today we have another one to share with you.

Two weeks Mr. Autumn hung a big new clock for me in the kitchen.  Below it was a bare place on the counter where a little lamp could go.  Well, lucky for me, our son sold his town house here that same week.  Unlucky for me, our basement temporarily inherited his attic junk belongings.

Being the good mother that I am, I decided to help him lessen the load, so to speak.  I stole selected a mini brass lamp with a cream colored shade (you get the picture), and gave it a new life.

I spray painted the base of turquoise/aqua/greenish blue and topped it with a cute little graphic yellow and white shade.  Then I wondered if the color selection was the right one.  Afterall, most of our kitchen accessories are in the red/royal/navy family.  So, I started looking around the kitchen and the first floor and was surprised with all of the similar shades that are scattered around.

For instance, take a look at the striped stool in the adjoining great room’s eating area.  There’s the same color.

This photo that was taken before the lamp was in place shows that Lulubelle’s background matches the lamp as does the clock’s.

I decided to look some more, and I found quite a few of the turquoise/blue/aqua colors around.  For instance, the mailbox/turned breadbox painted by my mother, and the fabric in the dining room chairs are in this color family.

The blue in the demi-john lamps that I made, as well as the robin eggs in my nest painting work.  As my Cambodian friends would say, the colors are “Same, same but different.”

The blues in two other oil paintings we have by local artists are also in the same hue.

Even items in the pantry and powder room get in on the action.

And finally, even the little glass jar in a still life painted by my mother and the soft blues in our Persian carpets work.

So, I guess I can relax about my color choice.  And the bottom line is that it is just paint, afterall.

*****

Take care.

Oh wow, the clock is amazing and the new vignette with the lamp and books is just perfect. I love the redo, and the turquoise ties in so well with the rest of your color scheme. Perfect choice. Thanks so much for joining TTT. Hugs, Marty

That’s a great clock and the newly painted lamp was a great pick-up to it! Your Lulubelle picture is the neatest! Your turquoise seems to fit in very well. Good luck on the “temporary” storage of your son’s things! It always seems to take longer for that kind of stuff to leave vs. how quickly it came in!
