Mr. Spring treated me to a week-end at a cabin in the woods in Vermont to celebrate my birthday. It was a rustic little oasis, and we took photos to share. But first, I must tell you that we both love the outdoors, so this wasn’t just a drive up to the cabin, hop out of the car, and open the cabin door. Oh no. This involved parking our SUV, and carrying our gear two miles to the cabin while wearing snowshoes. Plus, because the sun goes down so darn early up here, we were hiking in the dark and hoping we were taking the right trails to our cabin. Oh and I should add that it was snowing.
This is what we arrived to find. Isn’t it cute and cozy? When Mr. Spring asked what I wanted to do for my birthday, this was my answer. We found a place in Vermont where guests can choose from a variety of different sized cabins. If you are interested, it is Merck Forest Farm.
Our cabin was called View Point so we had to snowshoe uphill to get to it, but when we woke up in the morning, the views were beautiful.
The day was sunny and crisp. Our cabin had a little wood stove which put off great heat, so we were able to stay cozy. Plus, along with our food, we brought along hot chocolate mix so we could warm up our insides, too.
During the day we did some more snowshoeing and discovered lots of maple lines set up on the 3,500 acres of property they own. We left with some of our own Vermont Maple syrup. Yum!
Now is the fun part. Come on in, and tour our cabin. Gracie is ready to show you all around, too.
There’s not much to it, but the kitchen worked great for the two of us. The website said this cabin was for two, and they are right. However, we discussed that “back in the day”, this would probably fit a family of six.
This is a view of the bedroom, complete with a night stand. The window had multiple icicles, but we could still look out and see the amazing view.
When we were not outside, Gracie spent most of her time in the living room by the wood stove. We hiked in with some water, but due to weight and carrying the gear, we melted snow and then treated it in order to have water.
When home tours take place, kitchens and bathrooms are the must-sees. Well, here you go! This is the bathroom, a good ole outhouse just like the good ole days.
Snowshoeing was just one of the activities we did. If felt like we had the whole forest to ourselves. We didn’t see anyone else till we were hiking out on Sunday and just five minutes from our car.
It is hard to capture the sunset, but it was beautiful. Plus, the stars were amazing. We didn’t have light pollution, and the sky was very clear.
Overall, it was a great weekend. I know everyone would not find this as something they would want to do for their birthday weekend, but it is exactly what I wanted. I was able to spend time with Mr. Spring, Gracie and enjoy the outdoors and things that are really important to me in life. If you ever are up for the adventure, I highly recommend this sort of trip.

I think it’s so cool the way the internet can connect us. I love the blog. You and your mom are soooo adventureous. I would be sooo nervous walking in the dark woods. Let alone with gear and snowshoes. Lions and tigers and bears. Yikes!!! But I very much enjoy doing it thru the internet. LOL!
