DIY Candy Dishes

By Jordan | Projects

We had our second annual “Movie on the Lawn” party a couple of weeks ago.  (Pictures will come soon.)  We served lots of candy so I wanted to have a small candy bar area.  I saw this idea on Pinterest and knew I had to give it a try.  Follow along and see how I made some customized candy dishes.

It started with a trip to the thrift store where  I purchased a couple of vases and some large glass bowls.

Since I was going to spray paint the candle holders, it didn’t matter if they had some designs on them.  Also, I made sure the openings of the bowls were large enough to fit a hand through.  We used scoops to help with this.

First, I applied a coat of spray paint primer.

The party’s color scheme was yellow and grey.  It worked out great because I already had these colors on hand from my recycle bin project.  After the paint dried, I applied some epoxy glue I bought at Home Depot and added it to the candle holders.  Then I stuck the glass bowls on top.  Sorry there is no photo of this step, but my hands were busily working fast before the glue dried.  Be sure to let it sit and cure for some time.

These DIY candy bowls were very easy..  This one is filled with one of my favorite candies, Swedish fish.

The fun part is that you can buy lots of different sizes and styles of candle holders and bowls and use your creativity to come up with show-stopping combinations.  Then add some of your favorite fun colors, and you have one-of-a-kind servers.
