Every Wednesday night Mr. Autumn and I have date night. We walk to the local historic theater where they show a classic movie.
We always walk past some historic homes and cute shops on our way to the theater.
Last week’s date night also happened to be July 4th. The theater was showing the Jimmy Stewart film, “Mr. Smith Goes to Washington“. It was the perfect movie to see on that day, and it was the first time Mr. Autumn saw it.
Another first happened that evening, also. On the way to the theater, a shop had a bookshelf full of items sitting on the side walk, and a sign that said “Free” was sitting on top of the shelf. It was full of dish sets, books, pitchers, trays, and just plain ole cute things. I didn’t think a thing of it and kept walking.
When we were on our way home, there were noticeably fewer items, but this little plate was still there. With out missing a step, I grabbed it and kept walking. The fish subject matter didn’t hook me, but the blue and white did. I’ve never ever taken anything off the street to become my own, so this was a first.
I knew the fish plate would blend right in to my “blues hutch” in our kitchen. And it does!!!
When the door is closed (excuse the glare), it doesn’t shout fish plate. Instead it whispers another blue and white plate. I’m fine with that. I can nestle it behind some of the other plates, tea pots and pitchers, and add another layer of interest to my always changing display.

Wow what a blessing to get that cute plate free!! It looks really pretty alongside your other blue plates. I think that is so sweet that you all have a date night each week.
I absolutely Love your Fish Plate!!! It looks like it came from Japan!
I went to Japan for several weeks a couple of years ago. I purchased all blue and white assorted pieces and patterns of dishes to use for Sushi, and to have for display.
Blue and White pieces like your plate are the most popular for the tourist market in Japan.
Your Plate would be a Wonderful Sushi plate! I Love your Blog. Thank-You so much for sharing. 🙂
