I am always late to the party when it comes to getting the latest decorating book. Just last week I got around to buying Charles Faudree’s most recent book, Details. I heard him speak at a luncheon last year, and he is an entertaining, funny, gifted, and charming man.
We have an area in our foyer that is cute but needed to be cuter. I followed a directive from Charles’s book and put a flea market plate on it. Come to think of it, I don’t believe Charles told me to get the plate at a flea market. He probably recommended getting it at a high-end shop or a Paris market, but I ignored that bit of advice.
Now it’s cuter. But wait, you need to see the big picture – the whole scenario so you can make some sense out of it.
This little corbel with the candle and now plate on it hangs above a still life print.
They fill in some space beside the grandfather clock.
Next to the grandfather clock on the floor is my little French market basket turned umbrella stand. This is the aerial view taken from the steps!!! (It’s a narrow hallway). I actually dusted the top of the clock before I took the photo, thank ya very much!!!
So, all I had to do to spiff the area up a little was put a plate on it. Thanks, Charles, for the idea. I owe you one.
Take care.
No, you’re not the last to get this book. I am! But I really would like it. I’m a huge Charles Faudree fan! The plate does the trick!
Looks great, the plate does give you a good pop of color. Thanks for sharing.

Janette,
I have been following your ( and your daughter’s) blog and enjoy it. I love the way you and Mr. Autumn have updated your home and love to follow Mrs Springs updates to an older home.
The plate you used in the photo caught my attention. I looks similar to my wife’s Liberty Blue English Staffordshire. Hers is in the dining room china hutch. It stands out nicely with out shouting. Blue and white dishes are classic.

It’s funny how these things go – but I took this book out of our local library on Friday and dipped into through the weekend. I’d heard so much about it and was delighted to find it.
I adore purple transferware so you’ve got me on the plate. Jane
Sounds like a great book with lots of wonderful idea. I agree blue and white dishes are just classic.
What a difference one little plate can make. I love that vignette. I dream of owning a grandfather clock like yours….so beautiful. Nice to meet you too. I found you via Thrifty Treasures party, and now I’m following you. Stop by anytime, Lori
I haven’t gotten that book yet myself. I should though because I totally agree with Mr. Faudree that these little details can make the room. I love how you added the plate to your sconce.
I have that book and love it…and love your new foyer look….and that basket cart….oh love it!!!! I was just one minute away from getting one at the last antique fair….I wasn’t walking fast enough….!
The plate is the perfect finish! I love the whole vignette. And way to go for dusting that clock! Thanks for linking up.
