When we moved to Syracuse, we knew that this town was known for the amount of snow it gets. Last year we beat records, so we took up snowshoeing and other outdoor winter sports.
We were starting to get excited about the snow and doing some skiing this winter, but we have only had a couple inches of snow. Since we are not out cross country skiing, we have decided to tackle some more projects. Here are fun things we are working on.
(Before)
Here is an old view of our kitchen. Out of all the houses we looked at, this one had the most updated kitchen. We have lived with it for a year now, and slowly we have decided to make some changes like paint the cabinets, add new appliances and maybe open a wall.
The previous owner built the cabinets, and the quality is great. But they were almost the same color as his goldish walls. So, the first change we made was to paint the walls a pastel color.
We tested different colors before deciding on which one we would select.
We decided on a soft blue (Behr paint with primer in Cool Sky). I have to say I have been a bad blogger. Mom and I painted it a couple of months ago. But since she is visiting next week and we have more kitchen projects planned, this seems like a good time to share our progress.
The blue helped the look of the kitchen, but I have always dreamed of white cabinets. Mr. Spring has not had the same dream. He likes the look of the wood. However, he recently changed his mind and is on board white cabinets! Below are a few Pintrest kitchens that I love.
I love the white cabinets and the old school oven and stove. I would love to have one, but it is out of our budget.
Here is a great example of a craftsman style kitchen. Our cabinets are the same style. We have discussed subway tile as a back splash but one thing at a time.
I just think this is another beautiful kitchen. It is bigger than ours, but I love the flow. Ok, now back to reality.
This is how our kitchen looked a couple days ago.
Since then, I have removed the doors and hinges and am starting to get things prepped. My mother is visiting again next week, and we are going to paint the town cabinets. Don’t worry. We’ll have some fun, too. We’ve built a spa day into our schedule. Our husbands treated us to spa packages for our birthdays.
The doors have been cleaned and ready to be sanded.
Here I have just started my sanding process. Mr. Spring is out of town on business for a couple days, and since I am not traveling for work right now, I think I will be able to make a lot of progress on this project.
Meanwhile when I was busy removing cabinet doors, Mr. Spring decided he should build a bar for our Florida room (here). So here is the start of his bar. We are both loving our projects right now. Stay tuned to see how they turn out!
Cheers!

I love the style of your kitchen cabinets. The previous owners did an amazing job building them. Painting the wall made such a big difference. Wishing you lots of luck as you finish your remodel!

We just put White cabinets in our new kitchen and we love them! I’m sure you will love them in your kitchen too! Your cabinets have great bones for the craftsman type style and I think they will pop in the white! Great job!

I was born in Cortland Co NY, and spent some time there the last 2 years as my family shared my fathers last 2 years of life… anyway, if you like thrift store shopping I must share with you that the Salvation Army on 281 in Cortland is AWESOME, and there’s a store called Thrifty Shopper off 281, behind Tops that is also a thrifters dream.
Spring says
Ang,
Thanks so much for the tip. I will have to head to Courtland and check these out!
Cheers!

This is looking fabulous and with those gorgeous wood floors, the white cabinets will be perfect. Maybe you can find a little rolling cart or some old desk type thing to turn into a kitchen island. Put casters on it so it can be moved. Just a thought. Can’t wait to see the finished project. 🙂

Happy Belated Birthday to you both!
You can never go wrong with white cabinets, though I am a little prejudiced since I have white cabinets in my kitchen! 😉 I look forward to seeing the finished kitchen.
And your mom left a sweet comment on my blog about France. Please tell her that I am secretly playing French music for my son each night to try and convince him to go there again! 😉 And also tell her that her bike trip sounds like a trip of a lifetime, and I’m SO jealous!

Can’t wait to see the finished product! I have to ask….did you stencil the rug under the kitchen sink? I know we talked about doing a project like that. I love it! If you did, I think we’ll be doing another one the next time you visit 🙂
Spring says
Amanda,
I have been talking about stenciling a rug but I got this one from Overstock. I am thinking about stenciling my Dinning room rug.
Cheers!
