Harp Music

By Janette | Before and After, Decorating

Author – Autumn (Janette)

My decorating friend Beth Harper of the Lone Rearranger spent a recent afternoon with me tweaking some areas in our house.  When Beth comes, it takes me back to my days of playing with my doll house.  We move things around and talk and laugh, and it’s a great time.

One of the areas we fine-tuned was the landing at the top of the steps.  I felt the lamp was too summery for fall and winter.

We decided this brown lamp would work better.  However, Beth thought the shade on the yellow lamp was more appropriate.

But the lampshade was too big for the lamp.  Beth came up with a great idea, and it worked.

She suggested that we switch out the harps, also.  By doing this small change, the lampshade would sit higher on the lamp and be more in proportion with it.  This is something I would never have thought to do.

Voila!  It worked.  Now the better lampshade fits the lamp, and the whole look is more eloquent.  All it took was a little harp music from Beth Harper.

Later this week I will be sharing the other changes we made in this area.  They are very whimsical and appropriate for our home, which is located in the middle of the “Thoroughbred Capital of the World.”

Take care.

I learned that trick last year. So nice to be able to make different lampshades work.

I am not one for switching things around very often but I really think the brown lamp does look better for fall and winter! Isn’t it amazing what a big impact you can get from a tiny little change!

Hi Janette! Thanks for the great tip!! Thanks also for stopping by to leave me such a sweet comment.

Good luck with your class – I picked up a paint brush for the first time 10 months ago and I’ve been playing ever since. If I could give you one tip, don’t try too hard. My best work comes when I just let go and play. I lose myself in the joy of putting paint on canvas (or whatever surface) and don’t get too caught up in the end result.

Can’t wait to see what you do!! xox
