When I showed you the pillows that I made for our fall family room decor, I mentioned that there was enough fabric remaining to use on a runner for our dining room. It took less than an hour to make the table runner, and I am loving how it looks. Our dining room is in transition with new fireplace logs that I’ll show you soon, new chairs, and shelves that should be ready any day now.
I am all about orange and navy for this fall, which you have probably figured out by now.
If you have a sewing machine, then you can easily make a runner. A bonus is that you can decide what size you want it to be. All you need to do is determine the width and length that you want and go from there. My fabric was short and wide, so, I cut it into two pieces and sewed them together in the middle. (My runner is 17 inches wide and 84 inches long.)
Matching the pattern and ironing it well means the seam hardly shows up. Then I hemmed all four sides, and that was it! If you find some fabric that you love, then make a table runner with it. And here’s the thing. It doesn’t have to be decorator fabric. I made another runner for an upcoming tea that my garden club is hosting, and I used some quilt fabric from Hobby Lobby. It turned out perfectly, too. Stay tuned for photos of that tablescape. You could easily change a runner on a whim or seasonally. Of course, if you don’t have a sewing machine, there are plenty to purchase at reasonable prices. I think that Homegoods has a great selection at great prices. Oh, and you can purchase a runner, and put your own personal spin on it by painting it with fabric paint or adding appliques.
